OP says they don't have an aerial so they won't be able to get Freeview.
As they only have cable they'll have to get the V+ box and an external DVD recorder
If they get an aerial then a twin Freeview PVR and external DVD recorder is going to be the only reasonable option0 -
So, gone are the days when NTL (now Virgin Media) used to automatically offer a decent TV tuner signal with all the free channels on it as standard when you got broadband and/or a phone?
Anyway, worth checking if this gadget will do it for you on a Virgin Box:
