Gah, laptop wont boot

I've got a laptop which last night was running perfectly, turned it on today and it wont boot.

It starts fine, shows the pentium processer symbol, but wont continue booting.

Tried going through safemode and it gets to

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\windows\system32\DRIVERS\isapnp.sys

Then just sticks there.

Do you think its my hard drive or do you think this might be fixable? I have a few things on the harddrive I want to recover at least.

I can still hear the hard drive spinning.

Have you tried 'last known good' from the boot menu? Can you even get that far?
Some info from MS here if you have XP and have a disk

I have tried doing it from the last config but no look there, the screen just goes blank.

I don't have an XP disk

Its an EPS laptop (or advent, its one of those generics with a different badge on)

Its not saying that the above file is missing, just when I try going into safemode and it lists all the files like above, it gets to that one then stops, like maybe the next file on the list is missing?

I think I will just have to see if I can beg/borrow an XP disk from someone?
