How easy is it to make a pinata/pullina?

Hi there - my little boy wants a football birthday this year. it's not until the end of March so I have bags of time to get organised. i hve ordered some pompey cake wafers off ebay and i'm going to make a football pitch cake.
I just wondered how easy would it be to make a pullina? I made a pinata a few christmases ago, and honestly it was way too violent - the kids got too excited and nearly killed each other lOL
I thought about making PULLINA out of a cereal box and decorating it as a Pompey shirt with ribbons hanging down from the bottom. Do you think it would be easy to do? have you got any top tips for me please?
Thanks

can you show us a pic of one
not heard of them before ?
If the football players and
goal posts etc,for the
top of your cake are too dear
in the decoration shops
buy Subbuteo players instead
there is bound to be someone
selling them cheap on ebay.:j:j:j0 -
there is a seller on ebay who sells
paper plates cups etc
by the single item,I cant
remember her name but
one time we were having
a Harry Potter party and
it worked out cheaper
buying from her than a
shop or supermarket
even with the post on top:j:j:j0 -
Pinatas are papier mache animals/ shapes filled with sweets and toys that you hang up and kids bash the wotsits out of them with a big stick to get the treats out

A pullina or pull string pinata is very similar but instead of bashing them there are lots of strings/ribbons hanging down and there's one string that magically opens it up at the bottom. A lot more civilised IMO

They cost a firtune to buy and they are sold empty so you stil have to fill them
I thought it might be an idea instead of standard party bags - what you get from the pinata is what you put in your party bag0 -
I made a piniata out of a papier mached balloon.
Blow up the balloon, 'mache it, pop the balloon with a needle, fill it with sweets, cover hole!single mum of 2 boys

I made a very makeshift pullina when I was in Chile.
Basically, make the shape of the cardboard box - however you want, but leave the bottom part open. I simply wrapped some cardboard into a cylinder. Turn upside down and fill with sweets etc. We then tied two twigs (chop sticks?) into a cross shape with ribbon hanging down and fixed these into the bottom of the cylinder. then cover this part with a couple of layers of tissue paper or something that can be ripped easily. Turn back upright, decorate and hang.
When you pull the ribbons the twigs break through the tissue paper and so the sweets fall out.
I know I haven't explained that very well, but honestly it's a really simple thing to do.odi et amo0 -

I was thinking along the lines of.......
Paper mache over a cereal box with it closed.
Make an opening in the bottom with a length of ribbon attached to it. This will be the one that opens it up.
close up the hole with another layer of paper mache.
add some more ribbons to the bottom that will pull away when pulled and cover with another layer of paper mache so every kid gets a pull.
Paint and decorate it (For my boy I'm going to paint it like a pompey shirt, but i suppose you could do it however you wanted.)
Make a hole the top once it's dry and hard and fill with goodies. Add a hanging loop out of pare ribbon and close up with tape.0 -
mmm ? sounds like the greedier kids delight to me,
I mean how do you ensure everyone gets a
fair share ?
I know I am a kill joy, wondered how it would
work if say each ribbon was attached to a
paper bag inside and then every child would
get a fair share, perhaps throw in a few
loose sweets on top.:j:j:j0 -
Hmmm you might be onto something there rosekitten0

on the party delights website it suggests that the children each pick a ribbon and all pull together as it's possible that if they took turns, the first child could pick the 'winning' ribbon so I suppose the others could feel cheated out of having a go.0
