Hi,
I'm back again.
I bought my mum a phillips freeview box last year and she has had quite a few problems with it e.g. she gets no signal come up, the channels she gets each day varies.
I don't know if it's a problem with the box, her aerial or a case of her pressing the wrong button somewhere and not being able to understand instructions.
As I mentioned in a previous thread, I am pretty much my mum's only source of help and she has daily questions/anxieties/issues and to be honest I can't cope because of having a 3 year old and working virtually full time.
I contacted Age Concern and a guy rang up and arranged to come today but this morning she gets a call saying 'it's a waste of time me coming as I can only change plugs and don't know much about tv's', despite us both being told that we would get help one way or another, whether it's to decide it's an engineer type job or if it's just a demonstration exercise.
Any advice please, I am sitting at my computer at work ready to burst into tears, stupid I know.

Sounds like she may need a new aerial. The signal strength of channels is not the same and varies. If the signal is weak she will loose channel 5 first.
Have a look in your local phone book for "TV and Radio Aerial Services". Many will provide a free quote.
A new digital TV would have been a better option than a set top box. They are not too expensive, you might be able to try one from Argos, then take it back for a refund within 14 days."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

Hi Caz
I know the feeling, my MiL is forever on the phone about her e-mail. It seems to take about an hour each time to say the same thing. I have finally given up and written out the instructions for her to follow. Fingers crossed it will reduce the number of calls.
What part of the world is your mum based?
We will find a solution for you.
Best wishes and chin up

Having had similar with my mother on other subjects I suspect the problem is sitting in the chair & not on the roof
However have a read here

And check about reception here [enter post code]

If the reception is doubtful then a new aerial is the answer, about £100 fitted was what I paid
A new digital TV would not be of use if the reception is poor any wayGardener’s pest is chef’s escargot0 -
Of course a new digital TV would not cure what seems to be a poor reception problem. However, some sets do work better than others with a poor signal.
I suggested trying a digital TV as a simple way to eliminate the set top box / TV as potential problems."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
