i agree if youve got good named clothing in good con then ebay it (you may be surprised at what some people will bid !!)

i sold a boys next lined denim jkt which i clearly stated had a hole on the sleeve and a red mark on the other, and that would be suitable for playwear etc ,started it at about 50p and it went for almost £11 !!!! she left feedback saying it was fab etc ?!!!

ive made a fair bit out of doing that with my 2 boys (good name )clothing, anything else goes to the charity shop : )

I agree too!!!! I made wuite a bit of money last week selling things that were in fairly good condition and was pleasantly surprised at how much things went for and as long as you clearly state on your description any marks etc it will be fine. I gave up doing car boot sales - far too much bother!!!!

In my area baby clothes at car boots tend to go for a flat 25p per item. Great to buy from, terrible to sell at! I have tried the local paper but didn't even get an enquiry!
I currently have a 40 item bundle of baby clothes on e-bay, the best names in the bunch are Next, Gap & M & S mixed in with cheaper brands like early days & TU. I don't sell anything that isn't in excellent condition though. The current bid is only the 1p starting bid but there are still 4 days to go & I know most people won't even look that far back in the auction lists, most bids come in duing the last 36 hours so it's a case of not losing your nerve & pulling the auction early. The last couple of bundles I have sold have gone for £30-40 which I am quite happy with, 4 times more than at a local car boot & considerably less time/hassel.

    HTH;)

people are probably happier to sit warm at home looking at ebay than go out to a carboot

I enjoy them though, have fun even if I don't buy much

I wouldnt know where to start with ebay. I looked at the ebay board but from what I read people dont trust newbies as sellers or buyers and I would be worried about doing something wrong. Like ladygrey I enjoy going to boot sales but this will be the first time I have dipped my toes into selling.

lydia once you get going its easy ,honest .it does take a bit of time to get used to listing stuff etc but i did 15 items yday in not much time at all

re being a newbie on there ,i never found that much of a problem TBH ,there are some that say email prior to placing a bid if you have zero feedback etc .

and you cant really do anything "wrong" so long as you describe the item accurately in the listing and take a decent pic of it you should be ok

oh and dont charge waaaaaaaaaaay OTT P&P ,my pet hate grrrr and i dont buy from sellers that do !

    i agree
I hate going on e-bay and seeing £4.00 p&p for a t.shirt i paid that for a thick adults umbro coat which was asking for £4.00 and it cost her £4.50 to send
i pay what i know it will cost roughly i like it when they combine postage on multiple items
I dont bid on the item if the postage is too high but everything i have bought from e bay has been in tip top condition and i will pay what i think its worth named stuff i go higher
Not saying i would go up to £10 at a car boot because some people want you to give you the stuff lol
But saying that i still like going to one and doing one but i make sure now that i get what i roughly wanted for the item
I think you could make more money on e bay
can anyone tell me to set up a selling account do you have to have a cc or direct debit account because i dont have either my OH has but i didnt really want it going through his bank because of the other dd
  • Loopylass, I'd ask over on the eBay thread about that if I were you. If I recall correctly a credit card is required (I'm not sure if debit cards are accepted) to open a seller's account, or any new account. This is allegedly to verify the member's identity, which I don't believe because they will not accept any alternative ID. A card account belonging to someone with the same surname and address may be accepted, but I'm not sure.
As for baby clothes at car boot sales, it varies, but in my area 20-50p per garment is usual, or about £1 for brand-new-with-tags (BNWT in eBay terminology) or really posh stuff. Bog-standard clothes usually make peanuts on eBay because they cost almost as much to post as they're worth, but posh labels can do well. If haggling at boot sales (and customers will try to haggle, as I do when buying), it's often a good strategy to offer quantity discounts to encourage them to buy more.

I've bought baby clothes at Charity shops - all pretty good quality (eg. next and Adams). Babygros and lightweight clothes sell for about 50p each (sometimes less if they've got an oversupply) but other items eg. jackets sell up to £4 each but generally about £2. I'd stick a pound on the cheaper items and up to £4 on others. You could probably charge more at the Boot sale than the charity shop. If not selling, then look at reducing.
