I have the complete opposite problem to the OP in size of child.

My DD was 2 at the end of December... I try not to use the pushchair much with her cos I want her to get muscles in her legs and use up most of her energy :D. But have to give in and use the pushchair cos her energy levels drop quickly with her being so little. So a pushchair, walking child and tiny wrist is a bit of a nightmare!!!

I am guestimating that her wrist circumfrence is about 2 inches if that :o so the usual wrist straps are massive on her, as would be that adjustable one above the buckle bit would be huge on her and quite uncomfortable.

She won't wear a backpack and I know that the straps wouldn't go as small as she is.... so what do I do?

I wished on them but they were only satellites

  • Could you cut the wrist strap and sew it back together in a smaller loop?

i dont know how these wrist strap thingies fatsen, but i think velcro could be the answer to your problem ophie. you could make it adjustable to grow with her. just like a sports watch strap

Use reins...My children had the harness part of reins from when they were old enough to sit up in their pram-I had a traditional coach built silver cross pram. The harnesses are designed to be used from a very young age, so they do adjust small enough. (by the way my youngest is only 5 so I'm not talking about something out of the dark ages!)

As an aside, what's with all the "my child won't wear them"? Who's the parent here? Starting off with this pandering is what's contributing to the generation of brats who seem to be getting raised just now.
I'm not an ogre with my kids, and I certainly pick my battles (you don't want to wear your coat? Fine, be cold:p :p ) but when it comes to such basic things as keeping the child safe when you're out and about, then I do think the parents' wishes have to come before those of the child.

Does anyone else think it's really funny when a child on reins stumbles and you just lift the reins, and they're up again like a weeble?:rotfl: :o

She won't wear a backpack because they slip off her shoulders. I have yet to find a backpack that will fit her. She is very small.

I pick my battles too which is why her not wearing a backpack isn't that important. Her not hitting out at people or touching things in shops and saying please and thank you at the minute is much more important than a backback.

Ophie those backpacks clip together at the front so they wouldn't slip off, and can go to very small. My DD is 15 months and only 18lb and it fits her.

  • i didn't know the backpacks clipped at the front too. i suppose if a child 'won't wear one' then they are more likely to try to slip out of it so it wouldn't be as safe. i have no idea, mine has never tried a backpack but he's a stubborn little badger so if he hated it then he would try to find a way out of it.

we talked about this at the leisure centre yesterday and most people didn't have a problem because they drove everywhere so they didn't often need a pram once the child got to age 2. it would be easier to keep hold of a child if you weren't also struggling with a pram. if they are driving into town etc. then the child doesn't have very far to walk before getting back into the car. mine will walk a lot but he doesn't like the final mile uphill to get home and if there are bags to carry i can't carry him. actually i can't carry him anyway, he's 20kg

yesterday i put him in the pram for short periods when i needed to concentrate, and let him out the rest of the time but i had to keep reminding him not to run away. the snack tray for the pram has arrived so that will help. but at 2.5 i don't want to rely on the pram, would rather only take it if we are going out for the whole day or walking several miles.

  • Yeah - I think reins, straps are good. My little monster needed them to learn how to walk around the street with mummy and daddy and he had them for about 18months. Now he has learnt he holds my hand and we walk safely.
I don't care if they do look like dogs! Children need training too!
  • i don't think they look like dogs, i was repeating a comment i had when he was 1 year old and on reins nea a river - we were feeding the ducks. i think he enjoyed it more than the other baby who never came out of his pram
