Converting sound files to .wav?

Hi,
Please can anyone tell me if there is something I can buy or download that will let me convert sound files?
I receive sound files but the software I use to play them only copes well if the file is a .wav or a .wma or .mp3.
I've received a file which has the extension .cda and I can't play it.
I've tried just changing the file extension but that doesn't work so I think it has to be converted.
I am non-technical so any tips on how I might be able to do this would be much appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.
Kind regards,

I think a CDA file is "CD Audio" - the type of file that appears when you look at an audio CD in Windows Explorer.
As far as I know, these are a bit like dummy files or shortcuts that point to the real audio content on the CD. If you send someone a CDA track without the original audio data, I don't think it will be of any use.
So... you need to ask the person who sent you the file to rip the track from the CD (to convert it into an MP3, WMA or whatever), and then send you that file.0 -
