Paypal fees

Been selling a few things recently on ebay and have been amazed at the amount paypal deduct  I sold something for £3.00 odd and paid 10% commission! but sold something for £25.00 and didn't pay 10% ? How do paypal work out thier fees. By the time you pay to list the item and the paypal fees there isn't much left if your item doesn't sell for much and of course you have to pay the postage to send the item :(

You can't safely do a direct link to the fees page on paypal but just type 'fees' into the help box and you get all the details. basically though they are as follows:

    Monthly SalesPrice Per Transaction
    £0.00 GBP-£1,500.00 GBP3.4% + £0.20 GBP
    £1,500.01 GBP-£6,000.00 GBP2.9% + £0.20 GBP
    £6,000.01 GBP-£15,000.00 GBP2.4% + £0.20 GBP
    £15,000.01 GBP-£55,000.00 GBP1.9% + £0.20 GBP
    above £55,000.00 GBP* 1.4% + £0.20 GBP

Why don't you look into a micropayments account if your payments are really low?

You'd pay higher fees for larger payments though, so you might want to have two different accounts.

Are you sure it's the paypal fees that is causing the change in commision?
Some categories on ebay have a different fee structure, so it costs more in Final value Fees.

Paypal fees are fixed unless you are selling over £1500 a month, then it drops from 3.4% to 2.9%
