Dover - Local Taxi costs?

Hi all,

We are staying in a B&B in Dover (Castle Hill Road) tomorrow night before we go accross on P&O Ferries to Calais on Thursday morning, returning the same evening to stay another night in the B&B.

The car parking at Dover Ferry Terminal costs £8.50 for 6 - 12 hours and £12 for 12 - 24 hours, I think, depending on punctual sailing times, the car would be parked for just about 11 - 12 hours.

When I put the 2 postcodes into Google Maps, the distance between the B&B in Castle Hill Road and Dover Ferry terminal is 2 miles - about 8 minutes. I'm not even sure if we could walk it and how long it would take but bearing in mind we need to check in by 7.45am we're thinking of a taxi.

I guess I'm hoping someone from Dover, or that knows the area can advise me to how much a taxi might cost each way for roughly a 2 mile journey.

Thanks in advance
-x-

Thanks for that... I'll give some a ring. I might also give the B&B a ring although I was going to ask them when we arrive.

    Update...

Just tried ringing a couple of the taxi firms in Dover but out of the 4 I rang only one answered the phone. What a shock! ALL DESTINATIONS LTD have quoted me £47 (fell out of my chair!) it's an executive Limo/Chauffer driven 'taxi' firm!!! I'll give the B&B a ring later on!

We had a great time in Calais... we ended up walking to the docks which only took 10 minutes and getting a taxi back although we were still waiting for a taxi to come (about 30 mins) that we ended up sharing the taxi of 2 people going to the station (Norfolkline employees). We had rung the telephone number displayed on a notice at the taxi rank but they had another number.

There were 2 French girls (about 20 year olds) waiting the same amount of time that kept asking for a lift from drivers parked in the short-term car park! My husband spoke to them in French that it wasn't a safe thing to do and they ended up walking. Hope they're still safe.

We also saved money by walking into Calais and back, although the P&O shuttle bus was only 1.50 Euros. It only took 10/15 minutes and is pretty straight forward. Once we got to the station we took a bus (number 5) to Cite Europe, the Hypermarket, We wasn't all that impressed until we found Carrefour. Just bought bread, some fantastic cheap leeks and any other interesting french food that didn't need putting in the fridge.

Anyway, we had a great time just wandering around Calais Town.

If there is a taxi rank nearby you're sometimes better off getting in a car off the rank as they have to use the meter which should be set at the local councils rates. Private hire can basically charge what they like.

Just incase you need to do so again.
One day I might be more organised...........
