sainsbury carpet cleaner for hire

hi

has anyone here hired a carpet cleaner from sainsbury. it costs 15 pounds for a day plus 6 odd pounds for the shampoo. how good are these cleaners? or are there other places i could hire carpet cleaners from. i have 3 smallish bedrooms, one small reception room and a corridor and staircase area which is carpeted.

we just moved into a new house and the carpets (along with everything else) is filthy. looks like it has never been cleaned.

so i would welcome any suggestions and tips on cleaning carpets.

thanks
meera

Johnsons/focus do a carpet cleaner (carpet wizard maybe?) Plus if you do a search on google it will come back with loads. I looks a few months abck because I was gonna clean my carpets when selling my house but never got around to it as they werent that bad.

Sketchley use to have these carpet cleaners but I think they were amalgamated with Johnson's dry cleaners.. Try the tool hire shops too.

i was actually interested in hearing people 's experience of hiring these machines. do they work and do they clean well. or would i be better off investing in a 100 pound vax 6 in 1 machine from amazon.

Personally I do not think you can beat the Rug Doctor which I hire from Homebase. It does a fantastic job (makes you feel ashamed how much dirt it extracts) and is really easy to use. Bit more expensive though than the price you've quoted but it is for a 24 hour rental and we normally organise with a couple of neighbours to share the rental and do all 3 houses. If you rent it you'll need 2 IDs - one of which must be a recent utility bill.

i think i will look further into it
  • My daughter hires Sainsbury's carpet cleaner. Her carpets come up like new. Reasonable hire charge at £16 for 24 hours. Carpet shampoo etc are extra. :j I intend to hire one too as soon as I have the time before the winter arrives :D

We bought a Vax carpet cleaner a few years ago for about £100.

It gives very good results. It appears to clean just as well as the one time we did get professional carpet cleaners in.

I also used it to clean the carpets in a couple of rented flats owned by a friend, again with very satisfactory results.

It is quite hard work to use as it is heavy and, as I wanted a good job, I went over every section of carpet quite a few times. I went over the carpets quite a few times with plain water to extract as much detergent as possible as residual detergent attracts the dirt again. Residual detergent is the main reason why recently cleaned carpets seem to get dirty again very quickly if the detergent isn’t removed properly.

The clean and dirty water tanks are smaller than on professional machines so you do spend more time and effort filling and emptying them.

You also need to have somewhere to store it.

For one off jobs get a reputable firm in but, if you anticipate regular light carpet cleaning, buying a machine is a sensible alternative.

It is always there so you can do one room or even one part of a room at a time rather than wearing yourself out trying to do a whole flat or house in a 24 hours rental period. Moving furniture can be hard work.

Another advantage is that, if you spill red wine or similar on your carpet, you have a machine there to clean it up straight away

    We don't regret buying ours.
