Penalised for being ill? refered to the earlier hospital rant!

I am disgusted with you lot and hope that you lot NEVER have to go to hospital!!! I am nearly 6 months preganant and have been in hospital for the last 2 days and have to go in again today! reason is I apparently have DVT which is a blood clot in my vein which could lead to serious complications if I don't get it treated. I have a 3 year old daughter who I miss terribly as I have to rely on other people to look after her (I have never palmed her off to anyone!!!) - she doesn't understand!! my partner has had to take days off work to take me in which leaves him behind on his work and to top it all off I have to have injections everytime I go in which is extremely traumatic for me!

I have logged on this morning (just before I go in) as I know I had things to send out which ended 2 days ago, I remembered this thread which is why I have logged onto this forum to shame you all! I know that my case isn't life threatening like some of these people you don't even know may be - you never do know!! but to me and my family it is a traumatic time!!

Oh and the one who suggested you have internet access next to your bed. Why on earth would you do something like that when you are in hospital?!?!? if you are feeling bad the last thing you wanna do is to look at a computer!!!!!!!!!!!

So..........when I contact my buyers to explain why their parcel is a few days what do I say!? Do I lie and say "my computer buggered up ....blah blah blah .......or do I tell the truth in fear I may get penalised for being ill!?!?!?!?

Angel, there are lots of genuine people who end up in hospital, I did myself 18 months ago when I got meningitus. As a seller the easier option is to just refund the payments with an explanation and take the negs if necessary. Your health is more important than worrying about getting parcels out or getting a neg. If your parcels can go out in a few days then there is no panic anyway, a week for parcels is acceptable even under ebay terms and conditions.

I think the thread was more along the lines of people who claim to be in hospital and yet still manage to keep buying and trading on ebay.

As a seller should I accept that my buyer is in hospital and let them off the NPB even though they are still buying things and leaving feedback for other people? Likewise as a buyer I cannot insist I get my package from a seller, but would start a chargeback as soon as I saw that seller still trading, or listing new items.

I hope you recover fully very soon. Concentrate on your health and leave ebay to manage for itself for a while until you feel up to it.

    Angel this was a joke,

no one is having ago at people who are genuinly ill, we all are from time to time what most people are commenting on is those who cry wolf and do so time and time again I would never expect stuff i bought on ebay to arrive imediatly , we all have lives to live i have waited up to 3 weeks for things and would not leave neg feedback just because things took a while to get there
you must remeber this is a chat forum and to a certain extent people exagerate and have a bit of fun with postings, no one would mean to upset someone such as your self who is genuinly ill

Angel, as Soo pointed out, the original thread was aimed at buyers who claim to be in hospital, going into hospital, or just plain ill and yet still manage to keep buying and selling on ebay, I therefore feel your comments are way, way wide of the mark, and difficult to understand. That said, I find it even more difficult to understand why someone in your situation/state of health, would have, "posting a thread on the internet" on their, "things to do today" list.... especially given the fact that you appear not to even have had an opinion to share on the original thread.

Priorities Angel, hope all goes well. :D

Angel, I was in the same position 3 ops in 8 weeks, and only been out 3 weeks. I nearly died.... and I do quite a lot on ebay.
I think that the problem is that it is the minority who spoil it for us genuine people, and also i think that when something is typed you cannot take it in the tone it was meant.
My perspective on life has changed, and try not to sweat the small stuff. If someone isn't happy then do what the others has said, explain and offer refund, or if they are happy, then post it when you can. In the grand scheme of life it isn't as important as you and your family, and as you know it takes something life threatning to show that ! You don't owe them anything, and you can only do what you can do... if they don't like it then that's their problem. Ungenuine people will get their downfall, the nice people will be supported.

Hope you are recovering well, and here's to supporting each other on MSE.

Generally, people on ebay are reasonable.

As others have said above, there are some people who blatently lie about themselves or family being ill, paypal account not working, or lots of other similar excuses. When you look at their history, they are still clearly buying and selling, and leaving feedback, so it is clear to see that what they've said to excuse non-payment or non-delivery is not true.

Unfortunately, with the internet in general, not just ebay, people expect instant responses. People send me emails thinking that I am bound to see them and respond immediately and then start sending reminders just a few hours later. The same with ebay, even though the rules allow for several days for payment or delivery, you get impatient people who start chasing after just one or two days. There is no realisation that people have other things to do.

A couple of months ago, we went on holiday for a week. Knowing this in advance, we didn't buy nor sell anything on ebay for the prior two weeks, so that all transactions could be concluded long before we were away. When we got back, there were around 14 emails from an aggrieved buyer, each getting more and more threatening and abusive. It turned out that something we had sold about a month before our holiday had not turned up. He had only decided to chase it up after three weeks, but then seemed to expect immediate responses and had neg'd us and reported us to ebay. It hadn't even crossed his mind that we weren't actually around that week. As we have a 100% positive feedback for many hundred items, he should have really realised that we weren't conmen - especially for something that he paid less than a fiver for!

    Patience please?

Un necessary rant angelcake as you quite obviously got the wrong end of the stick. I read through that post and it was very clear that it was aimed at people who make excuses - not people who are sick

The people who you should be disgusted with are the people who make the EXCUSES that they are in hospital, granny ill, or whatever when they can't be honest and say i just haven't bothered paying for the item. They are the people who let us decent honest caring ebayers down!

    Get well soon!

    How rude and ignorant.

I've never known soolin to be patronising, I would say her words were meant in good faith and I personally thought very kind and caring. Don't read into words what isn't there and can't be found.
