hi, sorry if this is a bit of a tangent but what are you studying that will give you this big payrise?
to echo the previous posters, I'd suggest take their money and tie-in as an offer to negotiate...be pleasant but assertive and they'll respect you and you could be surprised how far you get. If they want some return on their investment then I see that as fairly reasonable, otherwise why should they bother? For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070 -
Hi bismark,
Its a CIPS course, there is a job going 5 miles away with 12 months experience and this level course for 7 - 9k more than my current salary - i thought it was a fluke but looked into it and there are loads of jobs around that pay mark with the course.
I wanted to do it through the company initially, i think i just need to give them a deadline and say that they need to give me the terms by the end of the week so that i can check them over otherwise im doing it myself.
yes, thats it, decision made, maybe, ish,

I know some of the ambulance services did this a while back - what they found was that the trusts who paid rubbish were loosing people hand over fist after they had qualified - they tried to enforce this clause and it proved near on impossible to enforce. I would let them pay for it to be honest - £1000 is not a lot for a company on a course that they can probably write off somehow anyway as it is employee training... (not my area so not sure...)
Try to get them to accept the 12 months deal they were originally on about - if they refuse then say after 12 months you'd owe them 50% (hey they've had you for 12 months qualified right?) after another 6 months you can leave with no penalty. That would be fair and show commitment from you and ditto from them. After 12 months you'd have experience and could go get a much better paid job (or demand more!) and the £500 could be repaid to them when you have a new job
As for "can put employers off" if you leave within your contracted period etc... tosh! If you leave because they pay you more than £8k less than your position is worth no employer will think it's unreasonable of you. Especially if you were to repay the training fee (or part there of in accordance with your agreement).
Best of luck and stop worrying about the company - think about you for a little while

Let us know how you get on with this.
I am not sure anyway, that references count for much so if you did leave within the extended terms, who would ever find out!?Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are usually right.0 -
Hi All,
Thanks for checking up on me Dont.
Well i spoke to my boss and made it clear that im serious about this, that i want to start it asap and that the reason ive not is because of them (as in the company)
At 5pm he said that there are no extended terms, he has put the course through to be paid for by the accounts team tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im so happy, im not sure who it was that was saying that extended terms were needed, but since they have supposedly been discussing this since i first gave in the forms in November im guessing that someone bit the bullet and said that if it hadnt been sorted then it never would be so they authorised it.
So the long and the short of it is that its all sorted, it will unfortunately take our accounts team about a week to process but by the start of March i should be ready to go.
I AM SOOOOO HAPPY
The BIG bonus is that i now dont have to find the cash, hubby was great and said we would find the cash but i really, really didnt want to face the extra debt.
Thanks for all of your help guys!!0 -
Well done what a result!
bet you are glad for biting the bullet and speaking up!!Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are usually right.0 -
