Just dont know what to do with myself

Right, now ive shared that annoying tune with everyone,
Im in a pickle, not a very big one on one hand but huge on the other.
I approached my employer with a course that i wanted to do which would improve my job (and possibly more importantly my salery by over 8k a year) back in June of last year.
It was all signed off in principle and it was decided that as my job had just changed i would wait until i was settled before starting.
Therefore i gave my boss all of my forms before we went on Holiday back in November (well to be exact he had the forms on the 30th of October)
I have been fighting with them ever since to get the two mandatory director signitures, those have now been signed and its good to go.
EXCEPT I have now been told my contract needs adjusting as this is a large investment (1K) and therefore the company wants a longer commitment than just 12 months as per the standard contract.
I am really annoyed - i went in this morning with the intention of saying that i was going to pay for the course myself and didnt want the company to fund it as they have been so rubbish.
BUT my boss said that he would sort it and get the new terms to me asap - me being me i just said ok, ok and didnt fight it.
WHAT DO I DO NOW
I think i have 2 options and genuinely want to know which poeple think best
1; go in tomorrow and say sorry but i am doing it myself anyway and thats that then send off the paper work and start the course next week
2; let them try and sort it out and then wait until its sorted but give them a deadline because other wise ill be waiting forever
This is causing me and hubby to arguee as he wants whats best for me but i cant handle confrontation and dont know how to be forceful enough to say stuff it without causing huge problems,
Anyway, i think this probably shouldnt be on here except i dont know who else to ask or talk to and that it involves me paying for it on my cc with 29% interest and using all of our holiday money and trying to find an extra £150 a month to clear it off.
I dont think this makes any sense, sorry, just rambling now, will post anyways but feel free to ignore

Is there a deadline for applying for the course?Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are usually right.0

lol, nope but sounds like a rather rude one that i got by text, lol0

You can start the course at any time but they have two exam periods, one in November and one in May, hence sorting the forms out in november, i was hoping that by this point i would be ready to sit the first lot of exams and would be almost half way through0

I guess you need to make your decision based on:
Can you afford to pay the fees yourself?
If you can, then life might be simpler just to go for it yourself. But consider:
Can you be bothered to hang around for your employer to get organised?
How much longer would your contract terms be extended to?
Do you want to be beholden to your employer for any longer than 12 months?Whether you think you can, or think you can't, you are usually right.0 -
How long does the course take from start to finish? How many hours / days per week is the course and will you be continuing to work alongside it?
I had a similar situation a few years ago for a full-time course. My employers said they would fund a third or half (cant remember which) of the course, which was done in modules and gave different qualifications dependant on how far you went. They wanted me to do a module at a time, I wanted to do the whole thing in one go. They wanted to put a clause in my contract that I must stay for 12 months after qualifying. I had no desire to stay in such a small place, on such a low salary, so long. I gave my weeks notice, left the job, and started the course straight away. They weren't impressed but I guess it hadnt occured to them that I would be prepared to fund the couse myself. The only difference is that I used my savings to do it.
I would say go for it, he who dares wins and all that. But is there any way you can get it cheaper than that interest rate??!!0 -
See, thats the problem Dont - we can find a way to afford it, i thought that 12 months was reasonable but more that that its a bit scary and they havent even decided how much it would be extended by yet.
I just really, really dont know what to do, Hubby says to just tell them to sod off as they never mentioned anything about longer terms
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa0 -
WOW well done Saas
Its a part time distance course with about 3 - 5 hours work a week and should take between 12 - 18 months on that basis
I like where i work but i know that there is no way that they will be paying the going rate once im qualified.
I genuinely like my boss and dont want to P him off but at the same time i know i need to do whats best for me.
I wish i hadnt mentioned anything to them about it now and had just done it myself
But i dont like confrontation and dont want to create an atmosphere between me and my boss
Do you think its acceptable for me to say i am going to pay for it myself and if the company wants to let me know the terms that they want if i agree they can reinburse me and i will resign?????????0 -
Hi,
Sorry if I am missing the point but are the company asking you to sign a tie in so that if you left after x amount of time you would have to repay the fee, if that is the case you could agree to this if it is reasonable and then if you decide to leave in the future just expect that you would have to repay and raise the money at that point, rather than now.
Where I work you have to repay in full for the 1st 12 months after which for a further 12 months you repay a reduced amount on a sliding scale. This is Local Authority. Perhaps instead of seeing it as a confrontation you could see it as a negotiation and ask them to put the proposed terms in writing, and respond with a counter offer in writing. Good luck0 -
Thanks Tara,
the main problem is not the tie in, i was expecting it to be 12 months but now its changed, my main issue is that its taking so long and i just want to get it sorted.
Plus ive been told that if you leave a company within the period that you have signed to its a negative to other employers and it can put them off.0
