Saving old paperwork

My OH was executor for his late fathers will together with his sister. DinLaw died in 1995 and SinLaw in 99. OH still has all his dads paperwork, bank statements etc. and everything to do with their co-ownership of DinLaws flat which was rented out for a few years and later sold. Can he now shred all this. How long does one have to keep paperwork, just in case.
