Just wondering if anyone's studied there basically?
Or perhaps could tell me a bit about what being a Buyer or Merchandiser entails.. from first hand experience.
Thanks.

I dont know where to start!! You have to start off as a buyers admin assistant in some sort of capacity, job title varies from place to place but esentially you'll be doing admin with other stuff thrown in. I think the job rerally varies depending on where you work and what field you work in. I work in jewellery and accessories and when I was working in admin my day consisted of
- liasing with suppliers about orders
- placing orders with suppliers
- critical path management (life of the order)
- studing brands trends, researching current trends, highlighting any useful info to buyer (this is more in your own time)
- management of samples
- generally assisting the buyer/assistant buyer with anything they need, there is loads more that i cant probably fit on here!!
merch is very different to buying and i do know about it but not as much as its not my job obviously. do you know exactly which field you want to work in? do you have a fashion orientated background? some work in retail i would say definitely is a bonus!0 -

I'm actually at college studying towards my a-levels atm, and about all the retail experience ive had is working in a shop, haha. However, ive been researching the job quite a lot recently and am really drawn to it and a job working w/ fashion in this sort of way would be amazing for me.
would you say your job is particularly demanding.. as i've read from a few places that it can get quite stressful at times. also.. is there a massive amount of maths involved.. as ive been looking into a course at the london college of fashion and maths is mentioned as a subject which would be good to have studied for a-level.. but i havent and i wouldnt say it was one of my strongest subjects.
Thanks for your help!0 -
I would say you only need maths if you want to work in merch which is a lot more to do with figures, you dont really need it for buying. It is quite stressful at times, but dont let that put you off. It's also quite exciting, any fashion job is fast paced. You need to have worked in a shop, thats what I meant by retail experience, the more you have in a high st fashion store the better really! admin experience will help too, but if you are going to uni to study it you'll be fine. maybe not LCF though? TBH in my opinion, those london fashion uni's are just about the name, good uni if you can afford to go there but there are other very good universities out there too!0
