Apparently $Ky will be sending an update for this TV in their next software update - due sometime late Feb/Early March. Then you'll be able to program the $ky remote to do the volume.
  • i have one!

    in a nut shell:
picture is great, amazing in fact!
sounds has no bass, so i have to use my surround sound (tv has a line out direct to surround sound)
Has more than enough inputs/outputs for me

    Cosmetically it looks really nice

But i cannot for the life of me get it working with my all in one remote

some advice, buy some high quality cables, I spend £30 on a scart lead, and £20 on a component xbox1 lead.

    do use crap cables!
  • Put my order in Wednesday evening and selected 5 day delivery (free) and it's coming today :) I've been holding off going flat panel until prices drop and quality rises but my CRT is getting darker and darker and this post has helped push me over the edge! It'll be interesting to see the quality differnce. Thanks to OP and useful AVForums discussions.

ebuyer have a free next day delivery promotion on at the moment I ordered some surge protector's last night they were here at 9am not bad going...I have a £5 scart cable which is ...erm ok...but as m.r.davies said buy a better one ebuyer have some good one's at half the price you'll need a gold one...I bought a gold monster cable from ebuyer £10 for the tv up-stairs (hannspree 37") and the picture is alot better than the one downstair's (same tv)...I am soon to get sky HD so will not bother changing the one downstair's as you get a better picture with the HDMI cable from the sky HD box...hope you enjoy your new tele...:D

    Hi,
I've had experience of a few Hanspree TV's and wanted to add some useful information to help people understand what they are buying etc.
Firstly - No quibbles about it, its £360 for a 37"HD TV, its really good value for money, your unlikely to beat it for a while. BUT.... dont be marred by all the confusing comments, its a budget TV and you get what you pay for. I was tempted by one of these as I wanted an HD tv but I didnt have much money, I eventually decided to not go for one and instead bought a 32" Philips HD tv for £399, the two TV's are in different worlds, really they are.

Now, the facts. If you use this TV with an HD source (e.g. Xbox 360, PS3, Sky HD, etc....) you will be pleased, it performs very well for the money but watch what connection you use (i'll explain more in a minute but try to stick to HDMI)
    Negatives for this tv:

1200:1 contrast ratio - As already stated, this is rather low but all budget TV's are similar. Opt for 5000:1 or higher and you'll notice a big difference. Much brighter and clearer picture but thats not to say that this TV isnt good, just not as good as more expensive TV's. If you want to see the difference, walk into any shop like Curries, Comet etc and look at the TV's there, compare a cheap budget one with a Samsung or similar (all should list their contrast ratio's looks for a low one, some start as low as 800:1 and compare against one over 5000:1) you'll see what I mean.

Not Full HD (no 1080p) - This really isnt that big a deal. 720p is huge improvement over old standard definition and you are unlikely to notice the difference between 1080p and 720p on a TV this size anyway, especially not when your sat away on your sofa. 1080p is only really necessary on big TV's over 42" and remember, if you playing games, running them in 1080p is going to put extra load on the console and may cause poorer performance (e.g. severaly Xbox 360 games suffer more slowdown when played in 1080p), ontop of that a lot of HD content isnt in 1080p anyway (e.g. Sky HD).

Poor upscaling - This is the biggie, being a cheap TV the circuitry that decides what to do with the image is not going to be too fancy. With all HD tv's when you watch anything thats not in HD the TV has to stretch the image to fill the screen as its not a HD signal. Also, CRT TV's (and of course most non HD signals) are interlaced, which means every other line in the picture is missed out and it switches between odd and even lines 50 times a second. HD tv's dont work like this so the TV has to 'de-interlace' the picture (or fill in the missing lines). Because its a cheap TV the technology that does both these things (upscaling and de-interlacing) is a bit poor so you get a fairly poor image using non HD stuff e.g. TV, Freeview, Sky, Dvds etc. More expensive TV's often have much better technology for this and tend to include special features like 'Pixel Plus' which improve the picture further. If your only going to be watchnig HD content then this isnt an issue but as HD is still relatively new I imagine most will be watching non HD content. It all depends on your opinion of what is good but I was really disappointed with the quality of Sky on this TV, bear in mind however that most if not all TV's at this price are going to have the same issues so if possible i'd suggest trying to see one in operation and see what you think (or next best thing, look at a cheap budget TV in comet etc, you might need to get an assistant to show you freeview or similar to really see what your dealing with).

Lastly, Connections.... This TV is good as it offers a lot of connectivity options but the thing to remember is that being an LCD HD tv, its a digital display. If you use HDMI you will be using a digital connection which means there is no messing and you will get the best out of this TV using this connetion. If you use Component or VGA, although both are still good for HD you are using an analogue connection which means the picture will have to go through more before it appears on the screen and being a cheap TV you will notice a poorer picture, less well defined, blurring etc. Stick to HDMI if you can, again this issue isnt quite so noticeable on more expensive TV's. Obviously Scart or even normal analgue aerials will give the same issues, compounded further by the poor deinterlacing and upscaling of the TV (does anyone know if you can get upscaling freeview boxes with HDMI out, if so, whats the picture like on a TV such as this, this might be the solution).

Anyway, thats me finished, hope all this helps to give you a clearer picture of what your buying. Bear in mind that technology is changing all the time so buying a brand name TV doesnt necessarily mean you'll get a better picture as often old models are sold off cheap and dont have all the features of new TV's and may give the same or similar issues as this TV has.

my SIL said my picture was crap compared to her's...erm...ok...but didn't you send a stupid amount on a 50" sony tv something like £2.500 so I spent £360 what do you expect...beside's the picture is ok for me...why do I need to sit right in front of it when it's a 37" tv...I know I have to now wear spec's but my eyesight isn't that bad...I prefere to sit about 8 foot away thanks...the picture is fine...I went into the co-op the other day and they had some tv's on stupid amount of money priced on each one...the picture quatily was crap...I was looking at them and I could see alot of fizziness in the picture...so I am glad I got this TV :D

I follow the AV Forums and am a bit of an AV nut. I know all the stuff in this post but I don't think I've ever seen it put so well. Very well balanced and based on knowledge, not hearsay.

Mods, perhaps an edited version of this post (removing the specific references to Hannspree) could be made a sticky on the TV forum? It's top advice.

  • Got it all up and running yesterday and just watched the Rugby on it.

Positives - it's big! And black. After a fair bit of fiddling I managed to get a reasonable picture - pretty good for the money vs size.

    BUT

Lip-sync - aaaaarrrrggghhh! It's out. The sound isn't delayed to compensate for the picture processing (scaling - ably explained above) and so the sound comes out a little before the lips start to move. And to make things worse, it's not consistent. It seems to be a greater processing delay for 4:3 material. I'm not going to be able to live with it I fear!

Also although my lounge is a reasonable size, the screen is too big for the distance. This of course is not the fault of this TV! When I go to the far end of the lounge, it looks pretty cool but I think 32" is going to be a better bet for my seating position. BBC reckon you should sit at least the height of your screen times 6 away. So if you're screen is 2ft tall, sit at least 6ft back - you get the gist.

Anyone else had lip-sync issues and found a way round? I tried turning on the EQ, hoping that the EQ would take some time to process but nothing noticeable changed.

1ST you need to go into your sky settings and change afew thing's in there and also re-install the sky...
then get yourself a gold plated scart lead £2.50 at ebuyer will do this will help with the picture
I had this lip thing and all I did was go into the settings of sky and do a re-install...that should work or try moving the dish abit outside...:D

I actually thought the lip thing was my scaffolding outside...lol:rotfl:

also I do sit about 8-10 feet away from it...:D
