Payment taken but order never arrived

Is there anything I can do when I've ordered an item using my HSBC Maestro debit card and the item fails to arrive?

I've spoken to the company in question and they keep saying that a refund should appear in your account but it doesn't.

Please help.

Ask your bank about a chargeback.

as far as I'm aware, the only debit card that you can get a chargeback for is a visa debit, since you paid by maestro card its unlikely your bank can help. unfortunately you will probably have to pursue the company through the small claims court if they don't pay up.

The last company who did that to me first stated the item was delayed due to the floods for 2 weeks and then stated the item had got lost in the post.

I didn't believe them so I reported them to their local Trading Standards via the web (http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/) and sent them a Letter before Action by post and email informing them I had reported them. I eventually got my money back 9 working days after they said they would pay me back.

Cheers for your help guys. I will report it the company to Trading Standards so that others are aware of them.

My item was worth £32.50 so it's not a huge amount.
