  • Slightly off thread but when I fill my car with petrol, rather than put say £20 in, I make it an odd amount so if any payments are delayed coming out of my account I can recognise them straightaway.

I used my debit card to pay a small deposit for a car I bought from Trade Car sales in slough and a week later paid the balance by debit card. Although they swiped the card through there machine at the time of paying the deposit the item never appeared on my bank statement. However it was;nt until I had a very threatening call from their credit control manager did I know it has not go through. I was accused of stealing the car and they were going to reportithe matter to the police. After checking with my bank there was no record of the missing payment and obviously I settled with them.

Did you get a receipt at the time?
If someone threatened me like that knowing it was not my fault I would threaten to sue them for defamation of character. Knowing how expensive litigation can be I probably would'nt go through with it but it might get an appology and perhaps a small gift from them?? eg car mats, free tank of petrol etc.

Yes I certainly had the receipt and was totally amazed by this guys strong arm tactics. He behaved long a deranged Rockwieller. I suppose on reflection you pay peanuts you get deranged Rockwiellers.
  • Then copy the receipt - send it to him- and ask him for compensation for the stress he has caused you through no fault of your own.
You might get nothing more than an apology but you never know!
