  • Hi I am thinking of buying a customised dress from Milly bridal as I am only 5'2" I am presuming you ladies would definitely recommend it.....

I would! I posted a pic of me in my dress earlier and I'm only 5 foot myself!

Just to end my saga with Landy Bridal / Asapbay, I have now written it off as a mistake (regretfully) to the tune of £131. Not really something I can afford to lose, but it doesn't look as if I'll be getting any of it back so no choice really.

I emailed to say that it still wasn’t what I ordered, bearing in mind that the design on the front of the bodice is different to that they agreed to make. They managed to get it in the right place on the first dress, although it was embroidered instead of beading, but on the new dress it is missed off completely. In their last email to me before re-making the dress they said “The upper area should be embellished with beadings and rhinestones” instead of embroidery and because they made it in too dark a colour first time “we have lighter color fabric, we will use that for you”. And the dress I received didn’t have rhinestones as agreed, and was still in the same colour as the last one. Also, there was meant to be a hook for taking it up in the evening, they missed this off the first dress and said they will remember for the new dress… and forgot again. They also said they would be sending me the correct petticoat as they sent a 3-hoop when I ordered 2-hoop, the right petticoat never arrived with me though.

So, I asked for a refund on the petticoat of £20 that I paid. Plus £21 that I paid for the mens ties that are not the right shape at the end so cannot be worn. And then £90 for the dress which wasn’t what I ordered. I offered to send everything I received back. It says on their website that if the dress is made wrong then they offer to make another one or a refund, and having already had it re-made and it’s still wrong and I request a refund this time.

Normally I got a response from any emails the next day at the latest, but after 3 days I sent another one asking her to respond please, and the reply was this:

They checked the dress before shipping and it was as I asked, the size is the same as my measurements I provided and the design is as the picture I provided. (It isn’t the same at all, and also my measurements are still the same but the dress is 1-2 sizes too big)
It was late in the evening when they finished my dress and therefore forgot about the hook, and also the beading is different because of the rush. (not my fault!)
They will send me a piece of material to make a hook myself, and some beads so I can make the right detail myself.
They will not refund as they didn’t even charge me for the re-made dress, plus they had to pay staff, materials and expensive postage for this new one as I wanted it quickly.
They end with “Any way you don't like it and we don't accept any mistake.” So no refund.

So even though in a previous email they said “It's our fault so we won't charge you any fee for the remade dress”, the fact they won’t refund is based on them absorbing the costs of the new dress instead of charging me for it, when they said it was free anyway. Their policy is to re-make or refund if not right, but now they won’t, I accept that I’ve already had it re-made but it’s still not what I ordered, plus I also received things I cannot use. And it is not my fault they needed to pay extra for faster shipping, if it hadn’t been wrong in the first place I wouldn’t have needed the replacement in a hurry.

Anyhoo, I emailed back saying I was not happy at this, they admitted in a previous email that the ties were useless but now won’t refund for them. Also not happy that even though I paid for certain things, I will now be sent the bits to create the detail myself and have to attach bits on to make a hook. I asked again for a refund for the ties and petticoat, seeing as I paid for those and can’t use them as they are incorrect and perhaps even a part refund for the dress.

The tone of their emails is so different now. Before I ordered, there were many emails back and forth with them, confirming exactly what they will do and agreeing everything I asked for, that it will look exactly the same, sent me samples which I approved (then they used a different colour anyway), I thought it was brilliant. Now though, it’s a different story, the emails are rude and basically say tough, you don’t like it, no refund because even though we agree it’s wrong, we don’t want to refund as per our policy on the website.

I had no reply now since last week, so I assume they are doing nothing more with it. It’s too late now for a paypal dispute as they well know, so I have now paid £131 for what I received and nothing is as I ordered.

I was keen to recommend them when I first ordered, but now I’d just like to give the view to anyone thinking of ordering from them, that not all the dresses are perfect and if you need some after-sales service, don’t hold your breath for a pleasant response as they don’t seem to want to help. Very disappointed at the loss of money. I can’t see how they can admit they’ve done it wrong but not want to do anything about it.

Anyway, in the absence of a reply from them for days and assuming it’s coming to nothing, I contacted the lady with the Maggie Sottero ‘Michelle’ for sale, and got it yesterday, a bargain at £200 for the original, it fits great just needs taking up. http://www.photobox.co.uk/my/photo?album_id=56985548&photo_id=1715197583

I know some might say why am I still complaining if I now have a dress, but the point is I paid £131 for dress that is different to what I ordered and they agreed to, a petticoat that never arrived and 7 ties that are shaped wrongly – all of which they acknowledge but don’t want to do anything about. A big boooo from me to Landy Bridal/Asapbay, but YAY to everyone else’s whose arrived just as they wanted – lucky lucky ones!!!

Oh no Honeypop thats dreadful :( I was going to order my Maggie Soterro Adelaide dress from Landy but I have decided agains't it after reading a few stories like yours I would rather pay the £700 and have peace of mind of what I will have to wear on the day. Plus I think the stress of it would really get to me.

Did you pay via credit card on your paypal? If you did you can claim the refund from your credit card as they are jointly liable so get in touch with them if you did.

I am really pleased you got the dress you wanted in the end but what a shame about the extra wasted cost :(

I'm back from our honeymoon now, and my ebay dress was spectacular!!

Purchased 2nd hand from a private seller, it's a Maggie Sottero but have no idea what the design name is! would fit a size 18, 5'3" bride perfectly if anyone is interested lol I posted a pic of me in it earlier in this thread (page 27) will probably end up putting it back on ebay at some point but I will definately go into more detail than the original seller did! Dress arrived dirty and with some beads missing from the back (hardly noticable really) but even so, it was still a bargain :)

Oh Honeypop, I am so sorry. :( I do hope you can get your money back one way or the other. Are you going to ebay the two dresses?
  • Good luck Honeypop!

And welcome back BB. I'm glad the dress was a success.
