We rented last year and our landlord wouldn't return our deposit as he said we had broken our contract-which we hadn't we had given him enough notice-anyway we took it to small claims and he got cold feet and paid up the day before it went to court-obviuosly our relationship with him is now terrible and I never want to see or speak to him again!
We are going to be renting again later this year-probably through an agency-will this matter-will they get in touch with our previous landlord-he will no doubt bad mouth us although he was totally in the wrong? We were good tenants and will be again-will this cause us problems???

Have you kept proof of his settlement before it went to court ?0 -
He sent us a cheque and I had to write to the court saying it had been settled out of court-I also have his letter which he sent with the cheque saying he was "too ill" to contest it-which was just an excuse really he knew he didnt have a leg to stand on.0

Where are you living now ?
Normally its only your current landlord who is asked for a reference. You could say you've been living with your parents which seems to be what a lot of people say.0 -

Usually they only ask for previous address - since this was last year - you've been living with your parents to make sure you have enough savings to cover you for the rent in every eventuality - haven't you *nudge* *nudge*....

dont be silly you lot - any decent landlord will do a credit check-electoral roll check - and then where will OP be ??
my advice is to up honest and upfront and tell the agency what happened -0
