Confusing updates

Saturday night my laptop said there were updates waiting to download. It downloaded 2 out of 3 updates then turned itself off.By now it was getting late so I went to bed.Sunday morning put laptop back on and it said it was configuring update 3 but showing 0% done. The confusing bit now is this is all it will do.It keeps turning itself off and then immediatley restarts itself still saying configuring update 3 0% done.I've tried starting the computer in all its different safe modes but everytime it goes back to the update which seems to stuck on a permanent loop of turning off and on.Has anyone got any ideas on how to overcome this problem or how to get the computer to start in another mode.
Yous stumped,
Steve.

Hi, this seems to be affecting quite a few people as I had to research this at the weekend after it hit me. The only solution which worked for me was to boot up to the vista DVD and on the second stage select the system restore.
This can take quite a while but it did work first time. As soon as it has fixed remember to turn off automatic updates. Hopefully MS will fix the offending update soon.0 -
Thanks for the quick reply. How do I get to the boot up vista dvd bit.0

Do you have the vista DVD? It should have come with your computer. When you start your machine you should see some options for the boot menu (it's F12 on my PC), from here you can select to boot from the CD/DVD drive rather than from your hard drive.0
