I hang most things on hangers in the airing cupboard, which is quite a good size and has a space between the door and the water tank which is ideal for a row of hangers. T-shirts etc. just get hung over the wooden slats.

I do iron shirts first though, and most trousers. Much easier while still damp.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I take the bulk of my drying (in winter) up to the launderette to dry and as long as I fold or hang it as soon as I get back then there's very little ironing to be done. DD's school sweatshirts and poloshirts are okay, plus the bulk of the poloshirt is hidden under the sweatshirt anyway. Never iron jeans, just dry them flat and as soon as you put them on your body heat will get the creases out. The only things I find I have to iron are t-shirts (unless I flatten them out on the radiators) and DH's work shirts. I've yet to try them but Morrison's do a shirt washing service - I think it's £8 for five shirts, which I assume are retuned ironed. V. tempting.

And I refuse to iron unless there's something good on TV.

And it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end

When DS1 saw a toy iron at Nursery, he thought it was a boat! :rotfl:

I took my DD into ELC one day and she started playing with a toy iron and ironing board, and she was playing with it like how you folks who iron. I cannot fathom how she worked it out because she ain't never seen me iron :rotfl: . Bless

We have a heated clothes horse thing. You put things on it, spread them out well, and then somehow they magically come out uncreased.

Any tips anyone? I grew up with a mother who ironed and still does, towels, underwear, bra straps and tights -yes really  so am a complete novice at this.

Take your mother out to a lovely lunch once a week, whilst you drop your ironing off to her :D

:rotfl: at that, it was always my dad who did the ironing! Watching TV, 'cos mum wouldn't let him just watch TV.

But I knew a chap who used to post his washing home every week ...

  • After ironing for the last 20 odd years and being the bain of my life, in December I decided enough was enough. I put small amounts in my TD and left on full heat and set my timer for 15 minutes. I then take stuff out, hang on hangers, put more stuff in TD, set timer for another 15 mins, take stuff already on hangers up to wardrobe/place other stuff in drawers - woilah!! Haven't ironed a single stitch in nearly 3 months :D - OH hasn't even noticed his shirts haven't been ironed, house is tidier, I am happier and every one is tidy!!! :T

Even though not very moneysaving due to use of TD, I think that what I save on putting the iron on for, say, 2/3 hours per week, my own mental state and happiness is money well spent!!! :j
When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying! :rotfl:

Yippeeeeee, I like this thread biggrin.gif

I very rarely iron - only when I have to.

My husband left me in November & he has done all the ironing for the past 17years.

Its the only thing I miss about him nowlaughing-smiley-014.gif
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...
