Item doesn't work but I like it - what would you do?

Hi all! :p

As a birthday treat to myself, I bought this item a few weeks ago on "Buy it Now" for £15 (bit of a bargain I thought). It arrived on my birthday only 2 days later, which I was delighted with, and it looks beautiful - I put it on straight away for my party.

But I did notice that it wasn't actually working (time was wrong, second hand not moving).

I put it back in its box and emailed the seller asking whether they were aware of a problem and, 6 days later, I got the response
been away for 1/2 term. The watch worked when it left me.It could be just the battery, have not changed it in the time I have had it.

Now, I haven't had a chance to take it into a jewellers and have the battery checked yet, so I'm a bit miffed that it's not actually working - I've got plenty of dud watches already!

What would you do next? (If it helps, the seller has already left me positive feedback).

  • Watch batteries go so suddenly though.

You might have to try changing the battery to see if it is that. If it isn't then you will need to open an Item Not As Described Dispute since it doesn't work.

    Good luck!

  • You can get a huge card of watch batteries from Poundland.
  • the sellers reply isnt very friendly or helpful. i would check the battery, if thats not the problem i would return for a refund and if they dont refund you and make you open a dispute i would consider leaving them negative feedback based on their attitude.
  • I'd try changing the battery (with luck it might take one of the sizes in the Poundland multipack rose_sparky mentioned) and if it still doesn't work, explain to the seller that it's not the battery and ask for a refund.
  • All of the pound shops sell the sheet of batteries - I have found them to last just as long as those we buy from a jewellers.

If changing the battery yourself, how do you get the back off the watch without damaging it?

Is there a certain 'tool' you have to use?
    I Hate Jobsworths!!!
  • Depends on the watch. Some of them can be opened manually without the need for any tools, most can easily be opened with a knife (they'll have a little indentation on the edge of the back bit for opening it), some need to be unscrewed, and some are so difficult to get into without special tools that you're as well to take them to a jeweller.
