  • What? I do not understand. Admin for what? We have not taken the policy yet. If we do take it, the policy is now with Norwich Union, not with Fortis who we were first quoted for.

You may not have taken it yet, but the fact is the price quoted includes an admin charge! It costs money and so therefore an admin charge will be applicable!

You dont need to understand insurance, its a complex business! all you need to understand is that you are not being ripped off!

Ive also said many times that customers are too price orientated but its so much more than a price, you might get a cheaper price but it doesnt mean they cover the same, the level of service might not be good, some companies may charge an admin fee for every change that you make where as others might not etc etc

I still don't see how you can say it is an admin charge. Admin for what? I was asking for a quote. Companies do not say "here is your quote, and that will be an extra £10 for providing it" I am more inclined to think mattymoo has it right.
In which case, since we have had a protected bonus for at least 10 years, why should we suddenly have only 7 years when the max is 9? (this is stated on our renewal)
And I am not so sure we will take the policy, NU are not slow at making charges, I know that as we have been with them before. They charge a £52 fee to cancel a policy, more than the £50 I have seen mentioned on here as reasonable. It may be a good policy, but these things also need to be considered.

I give up! lol, read your quote (do people actually read anything anymore?)

It will include an admin charge, deal with it! lol

im not saying mattymoo is wrong, it could be down to lots of possibilities! Maybe phone the company and ask them? afterall thats what they are there for!

I think what jennifer is getting at is that if insurance comes with a admin charge its included in the price of the quote. You don't suddenly get hit with an admin charge to change a detail on a policy that is at quote stage. She gave them a NCB figure then changed it so I think its more likely to be as matty suggested, a premium change due to NCB years difference.

I understand that :D which is why i said i wasnt saying mattymoo was incorrect! im just saying that new quotations do include admin charges.

I never said people get hit with admin charges to change a detail of a quotation, maybe we are all misunderstanding what each other is saying here.

The quote was over the phone, I have nothing in writing yet.

It really all goes back to the original post about number of years NCD some companies count compared to others, and , I our case, how a 9 + year PROTECTED NCD can become 7 years just like that.

    That was my original query/concern.

I will need to ring our present insurers and ask them.

I have had 9+ yrs NCB which has been protected. I have just transfered to a van insurance and because the RAC will not recognise more than 5 yrs NCB I have to pay more to the new insurance. I do not believe this is fair. It is costing me over £33 which is not on.
