Travel insurance for UK only?

Does anyone know if it's necessary to have travel insurance if I'm not going to travel outside the UK? I've got 3 breaks booked over the next few months. Obviously I don't need medical cover, the only reason I can think of for having it is if I need to cancel the holiday. One of the trips is a walking holiday - would insurance compensate me if I twisted my ankle on the first day and couldn't walk?

Well yes and no.
Clearly you don't need any medical cover.
However your holiday could be cancelled e.g. through ill health or death of a close relative or yourself or someone in your travelling party.

In general policies do cover you for not being able to go on the holiday.
I would have thought in this case the holiday company may offer the best cover.

Have you asked the holiday companies concerned?
