got a problem with tow bar electrics

i have a peugeot 307 with a tow bar fitted and i have a problem with it, when it is connected the indicators work ok side lights work brake lights work but when the side lights are on and if you indicate all the lights start flashing also with the side lights on and if you use the brake the lights go dim. i have checked the wiring and all seem ok apart from the fog light this is not connected to the loom could this be the prob? does anyone know which colour wire it has to be connected too?
any help will do thanks

• do you mean all the lights on the trailer do this or all the lights on the car and trailer?
if its just the trailer then i would be checking all connections, bulb holders and wiring, you may find some corrosion around a bulb holder, clean it up and try it again.
also check the lens dividers inside the light clusters are all there and ok incase light is escaping from another bulb, unlikely though, but worth a look.

it is just the lights on the trailer the car lights are fine i have tried it on 2 different trailers and both have the same prob think there is a problem with the electrics on the tow bar think it is something to do with the fog light as this is not connected to the loom
• i wouldnt expect it to be the fog light wire not being connected causing this, may be got the hazard/indicator wires mixed up?

I would check the earth return.

Most, but not all problems with trailer electrics are usually related to a poor earth.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

Deffo a poor earth. Check where the earth wire to the towbar socket on the car side is grounded to the body.

as far as i can see the only earth to the tow bar electrics is connected to the audible relay connector, could this be the problem?
