Natwest won't let me have my money

Just been to buy some lunch and had the embarrassment of having my debit card declined, even though I checked my balance this morning and there's plenty of money in my account. As I have no cash on me I'll have to go hungry. I paid a cheque in on Monday for £1030, 1000 of which was transferred to my ISA today (the money was showing as cleared yesterday afternoon). I tried checking the Natwest website to see if there's a daily limit for outgoing transfers but couldn't find anything. I also couldn't find a number for customer services, or contact details for my branch. Useless. It's just as well I don't need any money to get home tonight or there'd be trouble.

Usually there are limits only for ATM withdrawals and online transfersrichiethekid wrote:...I tried checking the Natwest website to see if there's a daily limit for outgoing transfers but couldn't find anything.

Sounds like the cheque is showing on your account and is earning interest, but that it hasn't actually cleared yet. Still takes 4 working days.
Call the number on the back of the card for lost and stolen but just ask to be put through to telephone banking and they can explain things and probably unblock your debit card.
You should probably allow a few more days before transferring money out next time, just to be sure.

I tried the branch locator before, trying the town and the postocde, even the sort code, but apparently the Stafford branch doesn't exist. I found a number for customer services on saynoto0870.com, and they said what's happened is although I've paid a cheque in on Monday and online banking says the funds have cleared, the sly bar stewards won't let it clear til tomorrow, even though they know it's there. So because I tried to transfer money to my ISA, the direct debit will be returned unpaid and I'll be charged for the privelege of being messed about. Needless to say there'll be a nasty letter fired off to Natwest next week.
I think the moral of the story is don't believe anything online banking tells you.0
