    Really wish I had just gone into a local bank now but i chose the Co-OP as I will get interent access even with a basic bank account and they have one of these moral code of ethics supposedly. Im geting the distinct feeling that they arent really bothered about having people open up basic bank accounts so arent that bothered if they accounts just sort of disapear during the application process.

    Your post is one of many that i've read on most of the banks offering this kind of account. Thats why i decided to go for the basic cash card account at Nationwide. It was open in 10 mins flat. I just needed 2 proofs of ID and that was it, no credit check. I had the cash card within 5 days and the pin number approx. 2 days later. I have to say Nationwide (my local branch) have been absolutely brilliant, the most helpful bank i've been with, i really can't praise them enough. I've banked with LloydsTSB and Natwest i wouldn't bank with either of them again if they were giving £1000 away for opening an account with them. thats my rant
