Adding A Name to Deeds

Hope I have this in the right section.

My husband and I have been married for 8 years. We both owned a property at the time, so I sold mine and moved into his.

We paid the mortgage off in 2004 but my husband is the only name on the Deeds - we forgot about it until recently!

So my question is - what do we need to do to add my name onto the deeds? What is the approx. cost etc.

We need to update our will, so need to sort out the house deeds first.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks.

  • My husband had my name added to a property he had inherited from his mother, our solicitor did it - dead easy if there is no mortgage.

I can't remember how much it cost, sorry, but it couldn't have been extortionate otherwise I WOULD have remembered!

I do remember that as well as the solicitor's fee there was a charge from the Land Registry, I have a feeling this was about £50-60.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

you dont need a solicitor to do this - phone your local land registry office and get their help as to which forms to fill in - they are very helpful to the public.
  • OK, thanks both. I will ring the Land Reg tomorrow and see what they say.
