Refund or take the neg?

I recently sold some computer memory on eBay which I clearly stated in the title and the text was high density. This type of RAM won't work with every motherboard so I stated in the listing that the buyer should check that their mobo is compatible.
However the guy that won the auction obviously didn't check and surprise, surprise it is incompatible!
Now, we have exchanged a few emails so far and I have just told him that it is incompatible with his machine. I suspect he is likely to ask for a refund. I did not list any returns policy in my listing (I never have). So should I refund him (if he asks) or take the neg which he's almost certainly going to give if I refuse? I currently have 100% rating after 106 reviews (mixture of buying and selling).

Given the circumstances you're not obliged to refund the buyer. You clearly stated that the buyer should check whether it was compatible before purchasing.
If you're feeling nice you could ask them to return it and then refund (as long as it's in good condition) and then re-list it.-->♥<-- Sugar Coated Owl -->♥<--

Woohoo! I'm normal! Gotta go tell the cat.0 -
I wouldn't refund -or if you do insist he pays all the fees you have lost and p+p etc.
If I was your buyer I would be kicking myself but would probably just think "Its cheaper to re-sell it myself" ...and would do that. You aren't obliged to refund.

Yup, I wouldn't refund. As long as you auction was clear and it sounds like it was then it's tough really, it was the buyers mistake and he/she can just as easily sell it on again or take the loss.
If you get a negative feedback then just apply to have it removed as there would be no reasonable cause for it.0 -
I have bought RAM in the past, then found it incompatible.
I just re-sold it, and ended up making a few quid on it too!I Hate Jobsworths!!!0 -

As long as it was an auction, if buy it now, distance selling regulations may apply.
If you are a regular seller it is better customer relations to refund and try and sell an alternative if possible.
A neg received under those circumstances wouldn't be removed by Ebay unless defamatory or crude..0
