ignore peter... he is talking trash.peter_the_piper wrote: »Are you saying that if you sell for cash, then theres a dispute, that paypal can take money from an account that was not used? I would find this very hard to believe, its tantamount to theft imho.
if u dont have a paypal account it wouldnt ever be possible. and i doubt very much paypal could do that...0 -
so as id only been registered a month i wasnt savvy and 'proved your point'?! how so??You were only registered a month when you bought a laptop via the most insecure payment method going, which rather proves my point.
I wouldn’t even buy a £5 item unless I had some protection and paypal is the only way that gives any protection at all on ebay.
I would rather lose a potential bargain that lose my money.
i did my checks on the seller and took the risk. ebay is a risk in itself and each sale has its different levels of risk, adding in a middle man like paypal, adds another risk.... personally i dont use paypal, due to abuse of the system by buyers and my grievance with paypals tactics.
ur wrong to assume non paypal users are not 'savvy'. thats like saying all 0 feedback bidders should be blocked/are scammers/are auction wreckers...e.t.c ... everyone starts on 0...
if ur looking protection on ebay, cheques are the way personally... i swear u get 6 months to reclaim...0 -

Thanks very much, especially as you seem to be agreeing with me.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -

No unfortunately you don't. New rules from last November mean a cheque that hasn't gone through the clearing system entirely can only be recalled for 6 working days. After that or if it has completely cleared already you would need to go down the small claims route and prove fraud and even then all the banks will do is maybe allow you some details of the other account so that you can serve papers on the seller and send in debt collectors to collect your payment. The bank cannot recall the cheque.
This new system was brought in to protect people accepting cheques. Before that cheques could be recalled for a week or so normally if they hadn't fully lcleared, or a few months if the sender could prove there was a mistake on the cheque, like words and figures not matching or if the payee did not match the receiving account. It has never been the case that a bank would just recall a cheque because the sender asks them to, otherwise no one would ever have taken a cheque for anything.
Bank transfers are even less safe for the buyer as they cannot be recalled at all and again the only recourse is to take the seller to small claims and send in debt collectors.
I do offer bank transfers and cheques to my buyers and I am not a scammer. However I also treat all my buyers the same so if a parcel went missing en route I would refund regardless of whether they had paid by paypal and could start a chargeback, orif they paid by cheque and could do nothing. However look at some of the auctions on ebay where people state they are not responsible for lost items..while there are still a few sellers who believe that I will continue to advise every one to only use paypal backed by a credit card.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
