try oneandone.co.uk, they have the cheapest domains,
Dataflame.co.uk is best for web hosting.

Don't know much about this, but I've been told you have to be careful with regards to getting your domain name - ie whether you are actually actually purchasing the domain name outright or sometimes companies sneakily just 'loan' it to you for a year or two ? Thinking about doing a similar thing myself & have been told e7even.com is a good one - but then I'm in the dark about this as well and would also be grateful of any advice !!! Cheers, Paul

please note that if you do get e7even and have the free domain name, you dont own the domain. e7even will charge you £75 to transfer to your name. the domain is free as long as you have your ADSL with them.

so what you can do it to register a domain name with https://www.oneandone.co.uk and use the web space from e7even.

if you want proper web hosting, have a look at https://www.webhostingtalk.com. from the forum, seems like https://www.site5.com and https://www.hostingsimply.com are pretty good for hosting and https://www.domainsite.com for domain name register (not for .co.uk)

have a look at https://www.streamlinenet.co.uk too. seems pretty good value.

but, as I mentioned previously - I'm a bit thick when it comes to all this stuff!! At this stage I just want to register myself with a domain name, so am I right in saying that I can do this with 1&1 and then worry about what Web Hosting Company I'm gonna use at a later date ?? Also, what do I have to do to own the domain name outright, or can't I do this & I have to just keep on 'leasing it out' from the company concerned??? Apologies for probably stupid questions but I'm on the bottom of a steep learning curve at the mo !!

    Cheers again, Paul

PS also read somewhere that people have had problems with 1&1, is this just if they're using them as a Web Hosting Company??

when you register a domain name, usually the domain will belong to you. there are some company that will register for you but you dont "own" them! so beware!!!

i too heard lots of horrid story about 1&1 but i still registered a .co.uk with them. basically they are cheap and so far so good. so get yourself a domain name and think about the hosting later. or if you got free webspace from your ISP, you can "divert" your domain to your free webspace.

I use UKReg for the domain name I have, £2.95 a year for co.uk (min two years) with free email forwarding for up to 50 email addresses.

This would mean that everyone in your company could have their "own" email address like joebloggs@mycompany.co.uk and they would all be forwarded via the email address provided by your ISP ;)

Thanks once again for all the advice given, but I'm afraid I have more questions !!!! It's regarding the renewal fees, if I were say to purchase the domain name for 1 or 2 years, when this time was up, are these companies then able to up the price considerably knowing that I want to renew or do they only charge a renewal at their 'current' .co.uk, .com etc prices ???

    Cheers as always, Paul.
