If you like a traditional look, I like those oblong 'brick' type wall tiles.

We will hopefully be doing our kitchen soon (well next year now I think!) in either oak or cream shaker style and a belfast sink. The tiles below look lovely in cream or white, they've used them on a display in Ikea and they really complete the look.

ooo OP, same kitchen as ours, same worktop as ours, same problem as me! LOL
I bought the same tiles to go on the floor and wall, BUT we have changed our minds and are now going for some cute tiny mosiac tiles from Homebase, glass, opaque and black, to add a bit of character, as everything is just dark grey and silver.

  • adandem...those tiles are kinda similar to the wickes ones I saw, only the wickes ones were longer so we'd only need a few if we went down that route.

Deedee73...what are you putting on your floor, and are you tiling the whole area between worktop and wall unit or just a bit? What made you change your mind about same tiles floor & wall and what colour were they going to be originally? :D More info please, lol.

Oh to have an interior designer in the family! :D

zebidee1 I have just put those long tiles you want in my kitchen and they look fantastic! I will take some pics later and send them to you if you like as the tiler hasn't finished grouting them in yet.

Also, for the flooring, have you considered cushioned vinyl? Again, I have just laid one here that looks great - slate tile effect - and it's already fooled several people into thinking it's real slate! :D

I would love you forever if you did! :D:D:D Will pm you my email addy.

As for the floor, it was always going to be vinyl we were having until we saw the state of our new floor the joiner has just laid. It's green chipboard and there are corners broken off and small holes everywhere as his nail gun must have used too much force and the nails are practically through the other side. I can't face the disruption to get it relaid and if I had vinyl now, I'd have to put down sheets of ply first to cover the damage and there's no guarantee the joins wont eventually show on the vinyl.

Seems easier now to tile but I'm a bit fed up about paying for a tradesman to improve our floor and we've still ended up with a tatty one tbh. That's for another thread though, lol.

The guy who laid my flooring applied a very thin latex screed first to even out any dips, but that was onto a concrete floor so not sure whether that would be an appropriate product to use on a chipboard floor. Maybe someone else can answer this?

Will send pics of the tiles just as soon as I can get in the kitchen to take them :D

Can you remember what the flooring was called or a model number or anything? Maybe I could google it to see if it's along the same lines? I've yet to see a kitchen and floor anywhere that's this kind of colour combination. I'm still not sure about laminate but if the look is right I might rconsider tbh.

We had to go for laminate as it's on a suspended wood floor and I've had problems with ceramics etc breaking up on one of those before.... no matter how careful the preparation.

I've got a piece out in the garage ... but unfortunately there's no manufacturer on it and the guy who sold it / laid it didn't add that to the invoice. We do know it was Italian and we have a 'lifetime guarantee'! The colour / style is approximate to the Richard Burbidge stuff on this link. Unfortunately the price wasn't, as we paid around the £40sq metre mark. But it is excellent .. provided you put the plinths / skirtings etc down on top of it and don't try to add moulding round the edges.
