Vinyl over tile - would it make room warmer?

Hi

I have a downstairs bathroom which comes off a little lobby and then the kitchen. The floor is really cold as is tiled all the way through the 3 areas. It is also a really impractical white/ cream colour - great with kids and lazy mother who doesn't mop twice a day!:rotfl:

I was considering using vinyl over the top to warm up the floor on the feet. I know that I would need to board over so you wouldn't see the grout edges

The area is probably 20 foot long by a max of 9 foot at it;s widest although kitchen is much narrower due to cupboards. How much per sq ft would it cost to have the boarding and what sort of floor covering would give a decentish result in terms of warming the floor?

Many thanks

In the past I've just used some cheap self levelling compound to "screed" the floor. Basically fill in the space between the tiles so there's no lumps and bumps to show through the lino. Very easy and quick to do.

As for lino I find that the slightly more expensive/thicker stuff gives the floor a warmer feel.
  • Thanks very much - you just want people to say your name don't you!?

Will have a look at the vinyl

  • For vinyl flooring you will need to screed the prime and screed the floor and find an independent flooring company not what we call "sheds" in the trade, the small family rum firms will sell you the flooring at the right price, you can easily pick vinyl up from £5 sqmt but i would advise them fitting it cos its tricky to do.
If ya need more detaild advice send me a pm cos im a floor layer of 15 years and could send ya in the right direction.
