White sleeves on kids double layer tops

Options
Hope you know the ones i mean, the top is a diff colour say black and the sleeves are white, my boys have various tops like this but they tend to use their sleeves as napkins! Anyone got any tips on how to destain the sleeves without wrecking the top?
Have tried hanging the sleevs in bleech but hate watching the water slowly soak up the sleeve to the black etc, its always a risk that i might ruin it altogther has anyone got as cheaper as possible tip? Thanks

I've never solved this problem either, why do they make such things? I don't get red/white and black/white stripes either. Are they just made to vex us sorting the wash?:D I keep the offending garments until the sleeves are too grotty and then either cut the sleeves off or chuck the thing away.

Try giving the sleeve part a scrub with a nail brush and some 'household soap' (ie green fairy if they still sell it) or even washing up liquid may work. Then rinse and chuck in the wash with fingers crossed!

If I have something still stained I just keep putting it back in the wash with the dirty clothes, until either I give up or it gets acceptably clean enough to wear again. Sometimes those light tops get stained so easily though, dont they?!
  • I find sunlight works well on stains, you might have to sort of cover up the rest of it I suppose but I have been known to stick things on a sunny windowsill and that seemed to get out baby food stains from bibs etc. I didn't want to use anything chemical for obvious reasons. REally worked a treat. My DS has loads of these too, it seems almost impossible to avoid them and I hate them. Hope they go out of fashion really soon.

You don't say how you normally wash your clothes but you could try a bio detergent if you don't already.
I got some eco friendly nappy soak from Tesco (although it's being discontinued, still had some last week) - that get's poo stains out so should work on other things - I've used it on colours before with no problems but it probably will bleach things slightly if you use it every time.

I usually put them in the wash with the colourds on a 40, but i seem to have enough for a full load now, shame they are black with white sleeves, red with white sleeves, etc, whoever invented them:confused:

My friend used to swear by hanging stuff out in the sun, things like baked beans or other tomato stained things.

My kids had their sleeves up or top off and when they were too big for a bib they went into little aprons that I made for them, Doesn't help with your problem with the 'double' tops, sorry!

  • I usually spot treat little stains with something like shops own stain remover spray.

if its tea or something i soak it in salt water first, helps lock the dye in too

Ive really not had a problem though with my boys layered tops, and one of them dips them into everything... and draws on them too. Infact girls tops are often worse.

I use non bio powder cus we have one with excema

I treat the 'spots' with dabbed on bleach.. rather than soaking them.. Works for me!
