99p or not?!

I am selling a few odd items on ebay that are brand new, mainly magazines that I have duplicated - puzzle mags Ive never looked at, odd dvds that are still sealed that I only paid a few quid for so with the credit card bill to pay, Ive been busy listing. Its such a fine art getting the start price right and also the postage charges to gain interest but I just wondered whether to start my next few listing at 99p rather than what I have been doing recently and starting the item at the price it cost me so for example the cost price of the puzzle book or magazine. By the time you have allowed for ebay listing fees and of course paypal fees, there isn't much left in it unless your item sells for a lot so what do people suggest? Should I brave it and start it at 99p and then grin and bear it if I only get one bid and I make a loss?

Ive tried to keep the postage reasonable on my last few items but still don't seem to attract much interest so wondered whether starting my listing real low might do the trick. You can always do the reserve but of couse you pay extra for that....

Unless DVD's are quite rare, I don't find they go for much more than 99p/£2. I had a couple of hundred dvd's and in the end I just sold them as a bulk lot, as after looking most of them, they wouldn't attract any bids (even though they were good movies). Same with books.

Do similar items by other sellers sell for more if not then you might not get anymore for them than you are already. Ebay is a law unto itself on what sells for a decent price.

If you are prepared to accept 99p for your items then start them at that but be prepared for them to sell for that. Magazines do not necessarily sell well either, have you checked out completed listings on ebay to see if there is a market in them?

  • You could try listing the DVDs on Amazon marketplace or Play.com trade.

There is no listing fee, they stay on for 2/3 months (I can't remember off top of my head) and then if they sell then there is a fee. They also contribute towards postage too. You won't make a lot of profit but it all helps! I joined just under month ago and listed approx 40 DVDs and all bar 2 have now sold.

There are some good threads on here about how to register/sell on both Amazon and Play which I found really helpful when I started off.
