A&L Overdraft usuage fee!!!

HSBC charge an arrangement fee if you haven't requested an overdraft in the last 6 months. This, and this is a masterstroke, also applies to unauthorised overdrafts; so basically, if you try and pay something over your limit, they won't charge you first time and you get your limit increased for 31 days (basically meaning it's usually cheaper for you to arrange the overdraft beforehand).
HSBC's overdraft rate might be higher than most other banks, PBA, but it's still better than Alliance and Leicester's charges, NatWest and Barclays won't give me one (Lloyds will, but frankly they can go fornicate themselves with a scythe as far as I'm concerned...
)
BTW, anyone recommending Abbey is insane, Martin or not.
