I'm going to Gumbet in Turkey this summer.
Any tips on best buys, cost of eating out etc. would be a great help.
Thanks

I went to Gumbet last summer. It is basically a British aprty town just a few minutes from Bodrum. I don't know if you've been to Turkey before - I'll assume you haven't.
The people are very friendly but you do get a lot (and I mean, a lot) of hassle from people trying to get you into their bars, restaurants etc. As for money saving ideas - eat and drink the local stuff. Much better and far cheaper than any imported goods.
Turkish food is great and can be easily found. Though just about any grub of any sort is available in this town from Chinese to full english roast eaten by sweating Brits in 40 degrees whilst they wait for Eastenders to come on the TV!
Gumbet is basically great if all you want is sun and booze and dancing. Not a great beach and no particular sites on interest. Though you can take plenty of trips if you want that. I would recommend a day on a boat visiting various beach and just bobbing around in the sun and jumping off the side into the sea. For a whole day including all food and drink I paid about £20.
Lastly, it does get very, very, very hot. I went at the beginning of July and it was 40 in the shade - be ready for that. Also have a night at the Dream Girls drag show - a good laugh.0 -
Thanks for the info, It's much appreciated

I'm back, had a great time, really enjoyed the dream girls show. and the boat trip.
A few tips for anyone who is going to turkey for the first time.
Be prepared to pay £10 per person to enter the country, there's a guy sitting behing a desk, he takes your money then puts a sticker in your passport. We noticed quite a few people gave 10 euros and they were accepted so if you have any take them with you it'll save a bit.
Also, when you go to the airport for your return flight you'll find the queue seems to be very long, it's because they x-ray all your luggage, it didn't take long though.
Take drinks with you from your resort, we bought 3 cans of soft drink and it cost £8
If you go to Gumbet avoid eating in the Jasmine Garden restaurant like the plague.
Red Dragon restaurant very good, but the best had to be Windy Bay, great food, 1st drink free and free tea, coffee or turkish apple tea.
