DVD-Writer

Hi!
I'm looking to buy a cheap internal or external, whichever works out cheaper, DVD-writer. Any recommendations on any specific ones? Any websites I should check out? Any information I should know?
Thanks!

  • Pioneer 109 is a good make and I have one myself, it only cost me £40 and it writes plus and minus disks, and can burn multi Dvd disks so that you can fit about 8-9 gig on a Dvd.
Plenty of other Dvd burners and the guys on here will tell you more, but i love my Pioneer.
You need to update the firmware when you get it, havent had any major issues with the Dvd writer.
I'm not poor i'm just skint

I recommend the NEC 3540- as good as the Pioneer and £5 cheaper:). SVP are a good place to buy from, since you can add some blank discs into your order and not pay any extra postage:). If you grab one in the next hour you'll get cheap shipping too- £1.99, but the offer ends at 11.59 tonight:eek:. They also have the Pioneer.

Disc wise I've had great burns out of MCC003 dye +Rs. I can't really recommend a -R disc as I don't use many.

The best about is the LG GSA 4136B. It gets all the top reviews. It's followed by the NEC ND35xx, and the the Pioneer. I've got an NEC and my housemate has an LG. The LG does rip more quickly, and has yet to fail a burn. However, when looking at the bigger picture, there isn't a huge difference between any of the drives. Usually price is the biggest influence because of this. The LG is a steal at £32 at Microdirect.

Checkout the CDR Info website. They do some very intensive reviews. All of the common drives are reviewed, and there is also a group round-up.

Regarding discs, you can't go wrong with Verbatim DVD-'s. One of the best around, and very compatible. I've never had a fail with a Verbatim, and I've burnt over 300 discs. A 25x spindle is around £7-10.

There is a shop in Liverpool which I purchase recordable media from and they also sell drives etc at very reasonable prices and you can order over the internet.

I might get one of them. My Pioneer dvdrom (slot) is getting troublesom at reading dvd's of late. As there no newer firmware I may have to invest in another reader and may as well pay a little but more for another writer. I ahve three dvd writers then :)
