Time for a petrol boycott?

Sorry but why is it a stupid idea? Petrolprices.com a great site that i use myself & get regular emails.Surely boycotting 2 big companies is our only option. The Government are also ripping us off as they are in so many other ways,so we should all show our disapproval to them by not putting an X next to them at election time. These companies are making millions a day even with the sky high government taxes, the boycott would punish the 2 companies mentioned first & then filter through to all the others. If we all don't make a stand soon,we will be paying out more & more & we all know that when fuel goes up then everything else does.albertross wrote: »It is a stupid idea, (just like all the other petrol boycott ideas), based on a chain mail that has been around for years.

From the money you pay at the pumps nigh on 70% goes to the government you have the fuel duty then not content with that you pay VAT on top, so your taxed on your tax, nice little earner. The rest gets split between the retailer and the oil company with the retailer getting the smaller proportion ie about 6 or 7 p a litre
If it was the oil companies fault don't you think that the price of fuel would be high all over the world to get more profit as it is go to the US and its around 40p a litre How much is it on the continent ? A darn sight cheaper then here which is why continental lorry drivers are making a killing filling up with fuel in before they get here and having big enough tanks so they don't have to fill up again over here! . If you want to blame someone for high fuel prices blame an incompetent government for a flawed energy policy and tax and spend policies
At the end of the day oil is running out. From the Shell accounts they spent nearly £13 BILLION on trying to find new sources and they are having difficulty finding enough.

Agree with Optimist on this, everything he/she has said is spot on. For me I find the most expensive BP around so I can maximise my Nectar points whilst using a fuel card

If you want to make a difference then don't use petrol/diesel.
Otherwise just shop around.
people power led boycott will make not one iota of difference.0 -
Why hit the petrol stations most of them are franchises and make little money on the petrol they make more money on chocolate and drinks. Stupid ideas like this are a waste of energy.
In April the government are slamming another rise on petrol taxation, because petrol is so expensive they are getting more money on VAT as well you want to make a difference stop messing with small business men and take the top lot on!0 -
iv gone from doing 14 thousend miles down to 8 thousend a year by not doing any nessasry journeys and doing things closer to home , i worked out the other day the tax on the 40 pound of fuel was 25 or so, what a ripp off.0

What's the point of boycotting? Most petrol stations are franchises so boycotts will just force them to up the prices even further to recoup lost revenue?

Exactly, vote counts, but with which party? My tips if you're spending too much on fuel....
1) OAP's, learn how to use online shopping and save your daily 8am drive to the shops without !!!!ing off commuters.
2) Parents with kids, if you live less than 2 miles away from the school, get off your fat !!! and start walking, you can walk 2 miles, so can your children (mine do). Do your shopping on the homeward bound route instead of a single weeks shop on a Saturday.
3) If you think you have to go somewhere, think, and then think again "is it REALLY necessary"
4) Buy a Prious
5) Cycle or walk to work, it's not rocket science, you get your butt off the chair, put some shoes on and walk out of the door...is it really that difficult?553780080 -
I agree with you MonkeySaving & i stopped making unnecessary journeys in my car a long time ago. Without having a go at people on here,i can't believe how negative some of you are. Most of us are on here because we are skint & any suggestion that may help our pockets a little is a good one in my opinion. Oh well,i guess we'll all have to carry on moaning about it & not doing anything about it!Debt at LBM(July 1st 07)-£35,053.92 Debt on 1st Anniversary of LBM(July 1st 08)-£33,170.11 (31st January 09)-£32,318.73Paid off so far £2,735.19(7.8%) Average paid off p.m. £143.95 L/H supporter 115 DFD target February 2018 DFD March 2028. Hi,
it won't be a popular view but I think high tax on petrol is fine - the problem is when the price is incresed by stealth it doesn't really encourage us to cut down. Better public transport and other incentives not to use our cars would be good.
