  • Hi Barry,

We're getting married in July 2005 and were also astonished at the price of photographers!! We wanted reportage photos - not just your run-of-the-mill traditional wedding poses and the photographers that did this were more expensive. We did manage to find that we liked at a very reasonable price. His website is https://www.atmosferik.com He comes from Liverpool, so isn't very far from Warrington at all. He's travelling to Clitheroe for our wedding....

    Hope this helps.
  • They are expensive and I can't recommend anyone local to you but I would warn you...be wary of Elegante. They are part of Kodak and I have only ever heard bad things about them. They can be very pushy and my friend got talked into using them when she didn't really want them. I helped her cancel and get a refund on her deposit but it took a lot of hassle.

    Congratulations btw!

  • What sort of prices are you being quoted folks?

The cheapest quote I could get for my daughters wedding last year was £600.

So, one of the guest's was an armature photographer, she took dozens of photo's for us.
Also every one at the wedding seemed to have a camera, we borrowed there snaps after the event and we were given the negatives of the one's we liked.
Also there was a disposable camera on all the tables at the reception for the quest to snap away with.

I gathered all this together, and with the aid of the computer made a wonderful 4 albums for them.

There was also someone videoing the whole thing for us.
I find Viagra saves peeing on my shoe.....
  • £600 is pretty good but it depends what you had in the package.
NEVER try and substitute a photographers professional photos with ones your guest has taken unless you really want to.
Professionals will know the best light, poses and scenery to ensure a lovely collection of pictures.

I know photographers who range from £400 to £2,000 (depending on the package) - I would say that the things not to skimp on is the dress, suits and the photographer.
It's all about the happy couple on the dya and you want to capture that well. ;)

  • Hi i'm getting married in March 2005, we were astonished by the prices of wedding photographer, i got in contact with my photographer through ebay (advertised as proffesional wedding photographer), £400 for the complete package and his repotage photography is very good, i have maintained contact with him throughout my planing and i am so looking forward to my big day knowing that I have not been fleeced by some photographers quoting well over £1200
his name is taff, send him an email through ebay and ask for a quote, he also has a website (address on ebay site, smugmug or something like that) at wich you can view his photos to date and he is willing to travel the country, you also get all of your photos at the end of it all and the albulm is for 80 photos or something close to that, i know i havent had our big day yet, but i'm feeling well worth the money all ready ;D

We got married this year in the West Midlands and our photographer only cost us £150. That was with 40 enlarged photos of our choice in a album. All the negatives and a CD with the photos on so we could reorder photos from a online shop of our choice.

    And they were great photos.
I'm back after a break :money:

    Hi all,

Good luck to each and every one of you for your big days.

The photography is the one area I wish I had thought about more, I was very easy going about all the arrangements and very much relied upon the professionals to guide us through. On the day the photographer took the standard arrangement of photos. His family, my family, friends the cake etc. Looking back I did have some photos that I would have wanted and missed. It is expensive, but we found we got the quality that we required.

Make a list of the shots you want and give that to the photographer, you can look back at you happy day for years to come.
    Smile it confuses people!
  • When I got married 3 years ago there was no way we could afford a photographer... so I entered a competition to win one and I WON IT!!!! We had up to £1000 to spend on our photographer and album! I have done a quick search and have found another competition offering the same - why not try it out!!! It worked for me!

There is nothing in the terms and conditions that state you have to live in Scotland ;D ;D
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

Speaking as a part time photographer, I would say be very careful of 'professionals' that are undercutting other photographers in the area - you must check that their current work is up to the standard you want or you'll be bitterly disappointed. Find out why they are cheaper, for example, if it is because they don't have a studio and therefore less overheads - fair enough.

Also, bear in mind that it is not cheap for the photographer, they have insurance, equipment and materials to pay for and I can tell you having done a few weddings myself it takes an age to do all the prints and reprints - that's why I stick to portrait photography now!! :P

I paid £600 for my wedding photos over 6 years ago and ended up with a complete monkey (not suprisingly she's now out of business). This was the reason I started to learn photography in the first place; I knew I could do a better job!! ::)

Most couples these days want documentary style photos which are not as easy to do well as you might think. It takes a lot of film/memory space and you will probably still need some formal shots (mainly to make sure everyone is captured and also for your older relatives who prefer this style).

As long as you are happy with the photographer you have chosen, and by happy I mean with their personality as well as their photography, you'll be fine.

If you really think that you cannot afford the prices of a professional, why not check out your local colleges/uni - there is bound to be some good photographers with experience of wedding photography. They will do it much cheaper so that they get the experience and can add to their portfolio.

If you want more information, let me know.

    Good luck

    Mel
