My daughter would like to practice her acrylic painting kits by painting on canvas.
Can any MSE's please advise on a cheap source to buy the canvas cloth which I will mount onto a wooden frame for her.
All advise apreciated.

have you tried the Great Art catalogue?
I think they have stretch and primed canvases on 1/3 off price this summer.
30% off
50% off
you get a free A4 sketch pad with 1st order and £5 off 2nd order, subject to certain spends.
if you want to DIY, how about getting some cheap lightweight calico from fabric shop, just don't tug it really taught over the stretchers as it's not as strong.
emulsion or vinyl decorating paint makes a good cheap primer. or just diluted PVA.
canvas isn't really necessary - just prime any offcuts of hardboard, MDF.
or use cartridge paper, or cheap lining paper ( wallpaper), although I personally would prime wallpaper with diluted emulsion.
hope this helps !

I recenlty went to a auction house in Cheshire, and bid on a group of paintings(5),there where no bidders as the painting were terrible.
Got them for £2.50.
I only bid on them because they where frameless canvess,my daughter just painted over them.Cheap or what.
One of my best money saving idea,s:jA thankyou is payment enough .0 -
On return from our holiday this week my daughter had got a letter to say she has been shortlisted for a competition of art on the subject of Waste Not Want Not.
She literally took a load of rubbish to school out of the bins and made some sort of art out of it (wish she would do this in her bedroom every night!)
We have to attend the viewing and judging on Saturday, at least if I say "its a load of rubbish" I'll be saying the right thing

I've just seen A4 size canvas for sale in Poundland in Bolton - I'm not sure if this is a national store though?
Quite a few of these pound shops have similar stuff so it may pay to have a look in some local to you.
Unsuprisingly, it cost £1!!0 -
is there a branch of The Works near you?
they sell mainly discounted books & stationery, but also have a large selection of art materials, including primed & mounted canvases of various sizes
their supplies can be a little sporadic, so if they don't have what you want, it's always worth checking again later0 -
Partners the Stationers have supplies of canvases in all sizes very reasonably priced - they also have 3 for 2 sometimes.:jBorn to shop;)0
