I have a hotmail account and use windows live messenger (WLM) to chat to family/friends etc. It allows me to chat to anyone who has a hotmail account.
Over the past week i created two new hotmail accounts. One for my daughter and one for my son. I have added them to my contact list. They both appear on my WLM window but do not have a 'body' next to their names. The body means you can chat to them by double clicking on the name and a seperate window opens. For my daughter and son an icon that looks like an open book appear. When i put my cursor on top of the icon it says ''non-instant messanging contact''. This i would expect with a non hotmail email contact but not for hotmail email account.
How can i fix this problem?

This is because the conversation feature is a two way thing, your daughter and son have to logon to their windows messenger, whereupon they should get a message saying you have added them to your contact list do they want to add you totheirs, or something to that effect, I think.I have a hotmail account and use windows live messenger (WLM) to chat to family/friends etc. It allows me to chat to anyone who has a hotmail account.

It's basically categorised them into people that cannot receive your IM. They either have to register with the service or have the software installed. Please support my thanks button if I have been of any help
