Wonder where it all ends up

Having read a lot of posts regarding renting,I am becoming concerned about the situation that so many are posting here.Folk being left without heating, others that have moved into a place that is on the market, landlords withholding deposits for no real reason.Heck it goes on and on.

I know of very good landlords that understand the game and treat it as a business, consequently giving good value for money. However,I also know some complete numpties who are totally over streched, subsisdising their tenants rents,in the vain hope that short term their properties will increase in value over the short term. Some of these came into the game when interest rates where a lot lower and now are feeling the pain.

It`s OK to say that`` this my pension``,maybe it is,maybe it`s not,but what about those that in rented. What about their pension!

What frightens me is the damage this is doing to society. How do you bring up kids in a place that you may well have a 6 months AST?What security is there in that? Why would you want to put your life on the line to buy some crappy place and pay so much of your income in mortgage repayments?my home has gone up nearly 400% in 9 years, utter bull.I can`t eat bricks.I really don`t care about that.Well i do because that nice bungalow that I would have needed to save 10 grand for has gone up for more than that.

Have no idea whet the answer is,but I find the situation disturbing.

it certainly is disturbing that more tenants face such insecurity from amateur landlords

i think a part of the answer to this is that tenants just need to be much more proactive when they take on a property - do more research and dont take everyone on face value.

    ask questions

how long have you been a landlord
how many properties have you got
may i talk to one of your tenants for a reference
are you a member of a landlords association - which one
ask for the Tenancy agreement a few days ahead of time to read it - (this should tell you quite a lot about a landlord)

good landlords WANT long term tenants - its a lot less bother that way for us !!
