It's that time of year again, and we've just had the renewal notice for our car insurance. I'm checking out alternatives on the comparison sites, but I'm unsure how to proceed when it comes to declaring claims. Our current policy is based on 9 years no claims discount. However, the only reason that this is the case is because we have NCB protection. We actually claimed for damage sustained in an attempted theft in 2006. Do I state nine years (protected) or one year NCB for the purposes of the comparison? Given that they all seem to have a section for declaring the nature and date of any claims it should be possible to declare nine years (protected) and give details of a succesful claim in 2006... shouldn't it???

You're completely right - you've got 9 years NCD and you just need to declare the accidents/claims.

You'll still have 9 years whether you choose to protect it again or not. Thats the benefit you pay for with the protection.
