The Halifax charge for an ISA too. I worked out that for my amount and number of transactions then Selftrade was cheaper for S&S.

  • I have now spoken to both HL and Selftrade. As it seems, for a Mini ISA, HL charges %0.5 of the held capital (capped at £200) on corporate bonds, %0.2 on shares and 0% on selected funds. Selftrade has a fixed yearly fee of £25 and no additional charges.

It would seem cheaper to use Selftrade if you are holding other assets than funds, if the invested capital is more than just a few thousand pounds.

Sounds about right. I use HL exclusively, but I only trade in funds.

HenrikJonsson, you might want to consider Interactive Investor. No self-select ISA annual charge, no charge for just holding the items you buy, 10 for normal trades, 1.50 (nothing until June) for buying on their weekly trading days. Their fund purchase discounts are less than Hargreaves Lansdown and they don't discount the fund annual management charge as much, if at all, so they aren't as inexpensive for funds.

If you're holding assets other than funds why not choose a broker which make no annual charge at all, such as HSBC InvestDirect or (if you have more than £3600) TD Waterhouse? There are probably others as well.
