Phones 4 U

Hi
I have already posted on another forum with this subject. but as the day's pass frustration is getting the better of me so a consumer vent. In brief Phones 4 U has kept my daughters phone which was sent back for assessment because it developed an intermittent fault. when she eeeeeventually got through to them they blamed her for the damage and said it will be £49.99 to get it back, they said an engineers report was posted to her 3 day's prior to the phone call. That was 30th January so far no report and no phone.
They have effectively stolen her phone and held it for ransom. These are not an honest company to do business with. I tried to talk to them on her behalf but they refuse, data protection act ect, ect, what a complete farce..... BEWARE!

  • When I had to send my phone back for repair with Phones 4 u I had to sign to say that if the fault appeared to be caused by physical damage then I would be liable for the repair cost (my phone was fixed and returned within 5 days). I assume that this is what has happened in this case and that your daughter signed to agree to this.
Nothing much you can do other than pay as this is what the agreed price was for fixing the phone. The only thing you could have done in hindsight would have been to take it to somewhere independant before you went to phones 4 u and have it assessed there....hindsight eh:o
  • never EVER go to a 3rd party company to get deals on phones, ever

Always go direct, for example if you went to phones4u to get an Orange phone, go to orange first and beat them down on the price offered, and make sure they throw in free insurance. I did, only thing I EVER had to pay for was a 1 time fee of £15 due to my dropping the phone down the stairs and it breaking, other than that, never had any probs. My advice - stay away from 3rd party dealers and go direct, you will always get a better deal

  • Of course, you don't have to have it repaired. I assume you can get it back without being repaired for no charge
  • Hi.
after a shaming letter to P4U the phone was returned this morning with usual covering letter "as a gesture of good will we are not charging you for the repair". There was the worksheet from the repair section, no mention of repair only a software upgrade. and a comment that the proof of purchase was fake. What a bunch of cretins, point noted about not buying from 3rd parties that was my immediate response to my daughter when this all kicked off. We live and learn!
