Compensation for Gas works?
Hello,
I am new to the boards and wondered if anyone could help me. We have been having new gas mains installed down our road. The junction point for all of this is under our driveway and in front of it.
A large area of the driveway has been dug up as has the pavement in front. It has been like this for a week now. They have assured me they will put it back as it was, although i noticed one large edging block has broken. Can you tell me if we may be able to claim any compensation for the disruption caused? We have not objected in anyway and have agreed to everything to help the job run more smoothly. Despite being told a few untruths with regard to what access we would have to our drive.
Today i was only just able to get out of my front door i had to climb over a neighbours wall with my young sons.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I don't think you will be entitled to compensation. I have currently had 2 weeks of the pavement on both sides being taken up. This has for some time not allowed access to my driveway but at least we're benefitting from better areas to walk on. The only time I believe you would get comp is if you had no gas.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Hi thanks for your reply, We were without gas from 9-5.30 for today and few hours before that but so was the rest of the road. I am glad they are replacing the pipes i would rather we had safe gas pipes, its just a bit seeing your garden dug up lol
thanks again0 -
Hiya,
I would definatly contact the contractors, was it Transco/National Grid..?
They have a contract to repair & replace & restore to its original condition in what ever state it was in originally.
They should provide you with paltes ove the holes or access points to & from your house safely or that is a safety issue its self..in an a emrgency etc..2010 is my DO IT year! grow own bits, savvy shopping, organised!!Get a hobby!!! be fit!! be happy!!

Just to let you know I recently had my whole garden wall rebult after they knocked part of it down.
It was a long process but i eventually got what i wanted. Be prepared for a long drawn out case.
By the way you wont get compensation, they will repair it (if your not happy you have to take it further then)0 -
Take plenty of photos as evidence before and after that way you can prove that they should put things back to as they were I think thats all you can expect them to do0
