Boiler making loud noise

Hi
My boiler has started to make a loud whining sound when the central heating is on. A friend has suggested that the pump may need replacing. I am thinking of replacing the boiler in the summer as its about 10 years old old so is it worth waiting till then or will the pump need replacing immediately?
Its a Saunier Duval Combitek boiler
Thanks

its difficult to give advice when you say you are replacing the boiler in a few months.
can you not bring the plans forward?
id be tempted to leave things alone and wait for the pump to fail. then decide if i can live without the heating for a while.
it might be an idea to buy a pump ready, (in case of emergency) and then resell it if not required.
some pumps have spares available. a new impellor may be all that is required.Get some gorm.0 -
An engineer replaced the pump and the sound went away but returned after a week and is now louder and more frequent !
I called him back and he reckons the new pump is faulty again and the cause is scaling. He is suggesting flushing out all the radiators to fix this issue.
Anyone think this is correct? I dont wanna waste more money on something that wont fix the issue.0 -
Hi
I think he's guessing otherwise he would have fixed it the first time.Replace it.

Corgi Guy.
Replace the boiler?
I prefer not to as I havent had any problems apart from the irritating sound. I might have to take his advice and go for the flush.0 -

Hi... my understanding from your first post is that you were prepared to replace the boiler hence my suggestions...apparently this isn't case
Plough on with your 'engineer'...let us know how many parts he replaces/how many visits he makes before he gets to the bottom of it.
Good luck.

Sorry. I did have plans but since i'll be forking out a bit for this issue, i've shelved plans to replace the boiler for the time being.
He did say he will charge £300 for the flushing and not charge for another pump.
Does that sound reasonable?0 -
Well, he will return the pump to the supplier and get a replacement FOC and as for the £300, what is he proposing that you get for that?
If he is intending on power flushing the system then ask him where he will make the connections. If he says via a radiator then show him the door as this will not cleanse all parts of your system correctly. The flushing machine must take the place of the pump and he must make arrangements to flush the secondary (plate) heat exchanger. I would very much doubt that he will do any of these things as, to be honest, it doesn't sound like he has much of a clue.
If on the other hand he is not intending on power flushing the system and simply injecting some chemicals, then he is charging waaaaaayyy too much money.0 -

Hmm i'll ask him that thanks. He did mention that he will need access to all radiators.0
