Mini imported from SA

Just remember that as you are buying it for £1000 cheaper, the chances are that when you come to sell it, you will have to sell it £1000 cheaper as whoever buys it will have all the same issues in their mind as you have.
You may also find it more difficult to sell.
So whilst it may be a good car at a good deal, it may also be something of a false economy.
I disagree - sorry. But I don't think that necessarily follows. When he comes to sell it, it won't have 'just been imported' and most people are clued up on imports now and not scared of them.
Many people prefer imports - especially Japanese, as they are made in Japan as opposed to say, the nissan micra uk - which is made in France and as is the Yaris and many others, which is why alot of people will import them from Japan because, to be honest, they are getting a better built car!Genie

Sorry, I disagree. People buy imports because they are cheaper - end of story. The quality of the build is down to the manufacturer and not where it is ultimately built or sold. I have never heard stories of Micra or Yaris quality issues relating to the plant of origin.
Specifically, in this case, the logbook will always say it was originally an import as it was not new on first registration in the UK. The trade will always lower the p/x value because it's an import. Used buyers will tend to query the history if they see information in the log book or service history that points to an import. The OP is an active example of this as is the price.0 -

At the end of the day an import is an import. So parked next to a full UK spec car in the same colour with the same miles - which do you think Jo Puplic will prefer? The UK. Hence why imports need to be cheaper. And they will always stay cheaper than a mainstream car til the car ends up in car heaven...0 -
But on the plus side, less corrosion from salt on the roads etc.0

Good point.
Think that if, for example, I wanted to buy a Nissan Micra, would I buy one made in France or would I buy one made in Japan.............. Hmmm let me think about that.
Its not rocket science ..... :rotfl:Genie

There is no doubt that the car made in Japan will be better quality and last longer with less problems, and therefor less money need to be spent on servicing ect.
You will also get better performance.0 -

If they are so good, why do so many significantly fail their first Japanese MOT equivalent and get shipped to Eire and other places to find second homes ?0
